Hi everyone, have been looking into some training and although i would love to do creative its just not possible with being a teacher to get days off, have also looked at an intesive 2 day 1 to 1 course but i know i wont feel confident after that, so i think the only way will be a college course in evenings.
Bolton college do a 10 week acrylic nail course in the evenings, and use young nails products, just wondered if anyone had any experience of colton college - the manchester road campus. I know lots of people say they learn more on the intensive courses but i can do some of the 1 day trainings and conversion courses after in my school holidays. Id like to do some natural nail training too after for really pampering manicures.
they've told me the course gets booked up really quick and there is spaces to start in november so should reserve a place soon.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
thank you xx:green:

Hi
I don 't hav e experience of Bolton college but I have attended Tameside college and am starting again there this evening doing my level 3.

I am quite surprised that the college is not asking for a level 2 in manicure/pedicure before allowing anyone to enrole on the acrylic course to be honest. This is usually a pre requisite for colleges before doing any nail technician course, I know I had to. Might be worth double checking.

With regard to college courses in general, I loved doing my nail treatment qualification at college, it gave me the time to research the different aspects and more time to practice things like correct enamel application, french polish and how to use nippers correctly.

After completing that I unfortunately ran out of patience and decided to do a four day foundation course with NSI which was worth every penny but now I have decided to continue with my learning and do the 32 week level 3 qualification that covers L&P, gel, fibreglass and nail art.

Good luck with what ever you choose. :)

I went to Bolton College. I had a lot of problems to begin with, mainly with fellow students (only 2 out of 18 still talk to me but hey ho!). The tutors are quite good and do help if you ask. Depends on the tutors you get really! The college resources aren't 100% if its anything like the fibreglass kit, but that can be sorted by bringing your own kit.

Also if u need any models urgently... let me know! HTHs x

Hi
i took a 3 day intensive course on acrylic nails
much to my dismay it never even really scraped the surface...
and when i went to enrole on a course i was unable to untill id done
the level 2 nail treatments which covered manicure pedicure health and safety and different treatment.
Along with how to use nippers and the propere way to hold and use the tools .... contraindications etc...
Im now about to start my level 3 nail tech and hope to be wiser by the end of it.......but i know its only the very begining.
i think you will find you have to do manicure and pedicure before you can move on to artificial nails ......if not let me know.. ive never been sure on the actual definates just got advice and went with that.
good luck
lena...kk chata

The acrylic nail courses at Bolton College don't require any qualifications or previous experience to attend. A friend of mine is currently deciding whether to attend the 10 week evening course or a 2-3 day intensive course but is still undecided which to go for.

I think that a college course is a great way to start because it's likely that you'll get a qualification which is a great way to prepare you for applying for employment (if you chose to do this) and getting insurance.

I have done both college and private training and there is good and bad in both of these categories. I personally say go for it: a 10 week acrylic course sounds like a great starting point :)

Also, I'm slightly sidetracking here but I just wanted to say hi to you as a fellow teacher who's training in beauty...may I ask, is it with the view to a career change or with the view to doing beauty in addition to teaching? :)

Hi guys, just noticed this post is from 2008!

I know this post is from 2008 but when I studied beauty at Bolton college, I was looking to do the nail course and when I enquired about it I was told it was only a college certificate and I wouldn't be able to get a job with it I would have to do a conversion course with a company before I would have a full qualification in acrylic nails and for the price I don't think that's fair. I also wasn't sure if this was the right information given xx
