hi

im doing nvq at college and health and safety assignment is doing my head in, im struggling on one of the questions, well actually its confusing me please please help me.

describe sanitisation methods used in the salon and give examples.

please help me i have searched the internet and i am getting nowhere.

Well just think about all the things that need cleaning in a salon and what you might use to do the job, bearing in mind that some items will need a more thorough cleaning than others.

All methods of sanitising, disinfecting and sterilising will be in your course books.

First of all you need to think of the different types of sanitizers, clue surgical sprits. What would you clean with this? If you think of the different methods first it should make it more straight forward. Don’t forget sanitise and sterilise are different.

thanks guys this is what i have been doing i think i was confusing myself more than anything, i have got surgical spirit, sterile wipes, and disinfectant solutions. i hope this is good enough for the tutor and she doesnt want how to use it too although it doesnt ask for that on the question or in the guidelines, will soon see, thanks xx

Hiya Babe, I'm back at study, so I know what your going through.
A great site for all is HSE Health & Safety Executive. they give all kinds valuable info on regulations, hygiene reguirements within the salon and standars. type in search salon hygiene etc and see what comes up.

Good Luck with your course.

P.S// If you have any handouts from your tutor...read them, they are full of valuable info. If no..try your college library for leaflets and books etc

Hi hun, I'm amazed at what you have posted here. Surely you're not just putting the names of the sterilising/sanitizing solutions down as answers in the hope of your tutor NOT asking you HOW to use them?? You really should know what each one is for and how to use it safely

Hiya,

Think about a salon environment????????????

Set up a mind map, I find these great for putting ideas down as they spring up in your mind map.

If your not sure what a mind map is, look it up on google..they are brill for ideas.

CHECK OUT HSE, it has everything you need to know on safety in the workplace

thanks everyone,

tbh my tutor isnt very helpful she works all day and when it gets to my evening class she is ready to go home, the handouts so far have been rubbish and a week ago they decided to change the examining body so the first assignment was no longer needed and this one seems harder. haha prob just me being dumb cos i havent been in proper education for 10 yrs.

another question what are the reasons for not naming specific contra indications when refering to a gp?
i have that we are not medically trained to diagnose disorders and diseases and client may need further tests to get an accurate diagnosis.

just need another reason if poss. sure i know it but its getting late now, x:eek:

IF yourr tutor is pants, send a email to the tutor of your course..or..whoever is the msin governing body.
you have to pass this, they are paid to get you through this course...It's their job!!!!!!

It really cheeses me off when i hear of tutors, who could not care less. They should not be in the role of educating new techs/therapists.

I definately think you should take this up with your tutor's superior. Regardless of whether it's a day class or night class, each student is entitled to first class training and not a 'can't be arsed' attitude from her. I hope you get it sorted hun

Check our Salon Master

Just exibited at the Salon International show

It's your educators job to teach you what to do......
then it's up to you to memorise it.

It's just plain stupid to be asking you to do work and ask questions you obviously know nothing about. They should be telling and showing you.

well i agree with you all think that a few of us are going to speak to someone higher than she is. she keeps talking about hopefully after xmas someone will take over one of the days. thats not teaching us, fair enough she is working lots of hours but its not our problem that we are paying for a course and not getting it its only like paying for a sky and not getting a good picture. haha. really annoys me that when we are doing the practicles she rushes us through them telling us we should be passed that stage by now but doesnt spend any time with us individually or in smaller groups or even when we are practicing, ahhhh! how are we going to know if we are doing something correctly or not until it comes to the practical exams and get a big fat failed!!! anyway thanks guys for your help, think i have answered correctly, its just hard to put things into words when your writing your assignments. half term now so going to relax and practise and when i go back have a word. x

Putting 'sanitisation methods used in the salon' into google got quite a few good searches up that would have helped you a great deal.

The books you are studying from should have all the info that is required on the course. You are right to annoyed about the teaching, a good teacher is also one who appreciates learners/students may not understand something and encourages them to ask if they dont. Never be uncomfortable to ask her honey, its her job to explain things. Due to the marking of some work students are affraid to ask incase they do not get a distinction etc. Asking should not go against anyones mark.

Good luck x
