Hello all,

Please can someone give advice on generally what types of colour varnishes elderly ladies go for in your experience?

I've started doing manis/pedis in residential homes and would like to stock up on some nice colours but don't want to buy everything under the sun. I have the basics which is the reds, pinks (bright ish), darks and french but I'm sure they would go for something a bit subtler. Any ideas?

Much appreciated!

:)

I don`t know about subtler, if its any thing like some of the residential homes I have worked in, some the women can be up for all sorts of coulors and new iders!
If it was myself doing it I think I would have some fab, fun and maybe even a few funky coulors in there with the more subtler ones, you never know you maybe suprised! :)

In my experience those ladies like the same as everyone else 'a variety'.... if not a little more adventerous!

Hi! I'd agree with the above, take a good variety of colours but in my experience, the more 'mature' ladies tend to go for a subtle pink/beige with a pearly or shimmery tint. Hth XX

Most of my older clients prefer dusky rose colours, often in a creme consistency, although some seem to like a shimmer.

Everyone assumes that older ladies look better in the 'pink pearl' colours and subtle shades ... and indeed this is what they tend to think themselves ... HOWEVER do your mature clients a favour and show them that their hands look younger and prettier with a nice vibrant shade. Nothing garish, but a nice bright pink or cerise etc actually makes the hands and skin look younger.

It is up to us as professionals to show mature clients that they can indeed wear brighter colours without it looking odd or too young or cheap. Never underestimate the power of your suggestions. It is our duty as professionals to suggest things like this.

Try it and see.

I have a great mixture of ages in my clientele, and my oldest lady much prefers a bright, strong colour - in reds or pinks - I mean bright & not dark, such as fushias - 'Scorch' and 'Crimson Uprising' CND colours. There is the odd one that will have a pearly pink, but then I show them my collection of colours!
Never judge a book by it's cover!!!

I have a 94 year old file & polish client who loves a bright set of nails.....mind you she did the donnington racing circuit on a motor bike last year!

Wow, thanks folks! That was a real eye opener!

Will take it all on board...thanks again, you're a very helpful bunch!!!

(I think I'm actually addicted to this website!) xxx

I'm always trying to get my old ladies to try other colours, but they won't budge! I think it depends on the type of client you have - I work in a historic town (Arundel), overlooked by the Castle (home to the Duke & Duchess of Norfolk) and a lot of them are conservative Catholics who don't like to rock the boat or draw attention to themselves! That said, I do have a lot of younger clients who will wear my blues, purples & reds!

I too agree, and in fact it can actually detract from an "aged" hand:eek::lol:....it is always a talking point,i am such a fan of colour myself thatn the "neautral" shades....but if the client wants a neautral shade....well i give it to them....always give what the client wants....even if it may not suit you....they pay our wages...LOL:green:

Define elderly???

My oldest client (in her 60's) loves Creative's Nail Noir and similar colours and NEVER has a pink or a pearl, preferring a matt'ish finish that looks classy.

You never can tell... my 15 yr old daughter asked me tonight for a pale pink (and not black )!!!
