Hiya, I have been experimenting with custom colour nail bed powders. I have mixed some beautiful natural pots of colour that I know I will use loads. I have been attempting colour blends for 18m+ now, so i'm so excited that I finally 'get it'!

I'm struggling to get the colour to blend right on the nail. I'm using hd cover pink mostly at the moment, I'm getting a very definate cloudy line between zones 2 and 3 when I go to file. this happens on both practice tips, and nails. I'm also getting lifting round my cuticle area too, which doesn't happen usually. The lifting is the whole of the product that I applied as my zone 3, if that makes sense? and not on all the nails.

I am using the reverse method and sculpting. Any tips would be appreciated x x

You have to layer the opaque powders...z2 has to be feathered out before it reaches z3 then you won't get that line, then a small amount in z3 brought up to zone z2 and feathered out. x

ahh, is this why u asked if i used hd cover pink?

I'd been dying to get some for ages so couldn't do something different with my nail cos my nail beds are in a terrible state but i got it and picked up a pead and placed it and started to work with it and thought omg the consistancy is so different like white is completely diff to pink and clear but i picked it up quicker than i thought, as i didn't want them looking too pink even though its more peachy than pink i just did a layer of the cover then used normal pink to build. I'd love to be able to sculpt, maybe that'll be my next venture, for now i'm just working on doing good acrylic nails and trying to get my time to 2 hours LOL

Yep, thats why I asked. I was intruigued to you uding it over a whole nail. I did try and drag zone 2 down and feather it (albeit clumpy feathering) and then did a smaller bead at zone three and blended up, but I lost my shape then, and found the nail quite flat when I filed out. Aaaargh! what am I doing wrong. I've got to crack this, 2010 is my year of mastering new techniques....!

Have you tried laying your cover powder down in one bead? Young nails have a great video on their site showing this method of application, sorry but I can't do the link thing but if you search their site (or YouTube even) you will find it. Worth a few views & I find this method virlually foolproof once mastered.

I agree, this method is the one i find most successful but had the same problems as you when i started using cover pink, consistancy is different to normal sheer pinks and it takes a bit of getting used to!!

I quite often use a very thin layer and then build my shape with my normal pink or clear too as i do alot of glitter french, i have to encapsulate anyway. Keep at it, you'll get the hang of it soon enough and when you do, you'll find its really helpful to have a good coverage colour for those stumpy nails that you often come across :D xxxx
