Hi, Im getting a hit a miss with my popits, Ive just had a new client today who I done a set of popits on and I didnt feel happy with them.

Sometimes I can do a set and they can look fine ,other times theres like a crystalization look, not sure if its air bubbles though.

Its doing my head in to the point where I feel like not bothering with them no more.People are all so impressed with popits and then when they come out all crystally looking its makes them not look so good, but really its obviously something Im doing wrong.

I do try to keep the pressing the acrylic into the popit down to a minimum ,so I dont over press ,and also let it settle to begin with, but I do notice all air bubbles in the acrylic even with hardly pressing ..could this be the result of the crystalization look.

Please advise me , Ive just returned home after having a nightmare of a client who was constantly up and down, and with the popits going wrong...well think I might be cracking open a bottle of wine to drown my sorrows tonight.

Are you mobile by any chance? I was having this problem last month when I was letting my monomer get too cold (accidently left my kit in the car when the weather was really cold). The acrylic looked very crystalised when it was set but it stopped when I kept the monomer to room temperature.

Also, make sure you've got all the air bubbles out of your brush when you first start using it - press it into the monomer and watch all the air come out of it.

I hope your problem sorts itself out! I know how frustrating it is!!!

Mmm, yes I am mobile, and it was cold in the room , she had no heating on and kept asking if I was feeling cold.

Id rather not work in peoples houses with the heating on , as with my head stuck under the light too , I get all hot and flustered , so I replied to her I was fine..maybe I should put my monomers feelings before myself :lol:.

It could be a heat issue, but I'm more likely to be inclined towards..

1. Mix ratio & playing too much with the product before allowing it to settle - causing air bubbles.
2. Not pressing the popit for long enough - especially if it's cold. Hold it with a gentle pressure for at good count of 20-30 secs, then slowly release the pressure. Also, I find that rolling my thumb from side to side slightly helps too, but only very gently. Then move onto the next - only remove the popit when you tapped with your brush and can hear a 'click' iykwim.

If it's cold, it can take the polymerisation process a little longer than normal temperature.
I used to have a lot of problems with NSI L&P crystalizing, before moving on to CND.

HTH's

Hi ! or it could be that you are holding them in place to hard ;) this happened to me a few times when i started using then its like you push out the product too much :) xx

If you are using CND products then this is not a crystallisation problem....as crystallisation is freezing of the monomer, and CND monomers will only freeze around minus 80 degrees.
I don't think your clients house would have been that cold lol

I know you only say it LOOKS like crystallisation but I thought I should clear that up.
If there was a cold/hot draught then some surface frosting could occur...but I doubt that with Poppits.
I personally don't use poppits, I have tried them, but they aren't for me.

I would agree with Bev Rose though, and if the room was a bit on the cold side and you were using Retention+then you should maybe have held the poppit on for longer, as the set time would have been a bit longer than usual.

Surely when this happens it is just a case of buffing it down, applying a bit more product manually and finishing it manually. If it only happens on 1 or 2 nails then it won't add that much to your time.

I don't mean you here Debbie (honest)....but this is why IMHO I think Poppits being used by someone inexperienced or just out of training, isn't necessarily a good thing.
As when things don't go according to plan, you could be stuck!
Whereas someone who can do nails can revert back to their skills and turn out a brilliant set of nails albeit taking more time.

I did get the file out and tried to tidy it up , but some of the look was still visible after. Is there a chance it can go all the way through or should it be on the surface?

Im just wondering if I didnt press down for long enough now , or too hard ,or took it off too soon maybe?

Or all of the above??

Sorry I can't be of more help but as I say Poppits ain't my thing.
I had this happen once when I was trying them, and it filed off no problem and I reapplied. I had definitely released the pressure too soon on the poppit. HTH

ERM . . . . . Whats a poppitt??? Been a tech for 7 years never heard of em!!
(sorry if im just being very stoopid!)

Ok hun thanks for your replies.

When you buffed Debbie did it come away in lumps ?

No , there was like crevases..hope Ive spelt that right..

That is what i had and it was because i was holding down the popit to hard :) have a look at the videos on here and you will see gigi doing hers it helped me xx

Oh great thanks, can you point me in the right direction to find it please.

if you search it on here under popits you should find it xx

Ah yes found it thanks, have seen this vid before. After watching this one again and Nail zoos I think applying pressure too hard could be the issue.Thanks.

your welcom :) happy christmas x

Hi Debbie

I found that if i didn't put enough product in the popit, applied and then let go this would happen to me too. Sometimes i was left with a crater and others had a very thin layer - kinda like a puddle with a thin sheet of ice over the top. I just fill it with the three balls i would use if i was doing it manually and that seems to have solved the problem. hth's:hug:

hi debbie......i came across this problem when i first had a go with the popits.
It happened when i got the popit with the product in it then placed it on the nail with too much pressure....then i let go of the popit to have a look (being nosey as i am) then i held on to it again.....when i let go the product had obviously pulled away from the nail bed creating an air pocket as it wasnt cured enough but still bonded when i added pressure again. I now resist tempation to be nosey and hold on to it for a bit longer in my warm hands just to make sure its cured......just to add as well i had problems when i was removing to popit too soon and a similar sort of thing happening but on the surface.
I find them quite easy now on the right nails......keep at it i am sure you will get the hang of it eventually.

Thanks hun, yes I think pressure was the issue...Ive done infills on my own with them yesterday,I held off with the pressure, and there were no signs of the crystalisation look...result.:)Thats them in my aviator, then I popped some nice OPI polish on top.
