this is my friends nail, she shut it in a door about a month ago.im abit worried as she wants me to enhance it.she says it no longer hurts but there is blood still under the nail although it is not bleeding and there is a slight yellow discolouration but im not sure if this is through damage or it maybe infected.what do you guys think? do you think its safe to enhance or would you leave it?
thanks for any advice.x

Hi Tracey from what I can see it looks infected to me (bit blurred). To be safe I would get her to go and get it checked to be sure. If its not infected and just trauma and no break in the nail surface I would enhance it with CB. xx

Just looking at it again is the side wall detached a little or damaged (where there is a little black area) if so then I wouldnt enhance as catching the nail could cause further damage.

thanks for the reply hun.
i really didnt want to enhance this nail anyway.but i think she thought i would as we hve been friends since school.she said she wouldnt blame me if anything happened.
thats why i posted the pic on here as i had already said no i wanted her to know that it wasnt just me and that another nail tech wouldnt enhance it either.
you were right the nail was coming away at the sidewall so i wouldnt be suprised if she loses it anyway.
she had l&p on the rest and for her thumb i unwillingly built a slight free edge butting the product up to the natural nail but not on the natural nail and painted the same pattern on it so it looked like the others.
i did tell her that it probably wont last.
and i did tell her to go to the doctors so i will let you know if she does.x

Thats the trouble when its friends they generally ask for your advice but dont take it I dont blame you not enhancing it and I know what you mean when you say she "wont blame you" its catch 21. Would be interested to hear how she gets on. xxx

Personally Tracey, I wouldn't touch it... I have a sneaky feeling that the nail will come off and re-grow.

Here's what happened to my daughter's nail a couple of years ago ~ http://www.salongeek.com/nail-geek/60311-whats-most-damaged-nail-youve-come-across-so-far.html

It has since grown back and is perfectly fine, the only difference between what it was like before it was shut in the door and now is that the eponychium is slightly further back and there's a tad more lunula than she had before, to the untrained eye you'd never know she'd had such a bad trauma happen to it.
