hi all, hope you can help me out on this one...
i been doing nails for about a year (including college course), and i been doing fine where i am. but i have the offer of going to another town, driving distance is not bad. the thing is i have two offers, i hear the one lady is a real pain in the backside to work with, even if i am just renting a table. shes now got a very small space and one table, but wants me to compete against 2 other nail techs for the position. and she has a machine i would really love to work with for nail art. the other place is great, i would have a table and pedi chair also, work whatever hours etc, and the girls from the hair salon are already wanting nails (a plus as they show friends and refer to other clients in salon). i think i know who i am going with as both places are very popular in town.... my question is this....

would you compete with other nail techs to rent a booth? why or why not??

thanks.

Follow your gut. Go with the place you will be happy. I think we both know its the place with the pedi chair and table (LOL). Seriously, life is too short to put up with a boss who will drive you nuts.

The only reason I would compete is if I wanted to really really work in that salon. If it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity (ie. my first salon job or a spa salon that would offer opportunities not found elsewhere).

Good luck Kristi. You'll do fabby I'm sure :)

Hi,

Like Eni has mentioned, I would want to work in the salon that would make me the happiest. I have worked in a salon before where the boss wasnt very pleasant to work with, and it effects your experience in the work place.

I would always suggest to you that you put in 110% to get a job...Make yourself stand out from the rest, you should always want the employer want to have you in thier salon. The more people you impress, the better. That way, you can make the final decicion, and not take whats available or 2nd best.

I agree with Eni.

If I wanted something badly enough I would be more than willing to compete for it ... but I don't think you do want it that badly.

you seemed to answer your own question hun. you only mentioned one advantage of the first place (the nail art machine) but loads for the other place.

although i only do part time mobile work i agree that i would follow my gut whether that meant competing or not. Competition can make you thrive and if i went somewhere i was unsure about and not happy in, but had no competition, i would probably be less motivated, produce a lower standard of work and lose customers that way!!
good luck hun xx
