I have been having trouble with a 3 tooth bridge for some time now and have been told by my dentist that I will either have to have a large bridge involving 5 teeth or have a small denture - granny springs to mind with the latter option.

I have though been considering implants and wondered if anyone has had any done and what they thought of the procedure - good and bad please.

I know my cousins sister in law had extensive implants done and said "never again" but that is because she has virtually all of her teeth done.

I don't have any experience of these but I'd be interesed to hear what otherpeople say. My dentist is trying to push me to have an implant instead of a bridge on a tooth I had removed a few months ago but the difference in the price is huge . I'm not even that fussed about the missing tooth to be honest, it's at the back and you can't even see it when I talk or laugh.

Are implants the ones where the bolt is drilled into your jaw and then a ceramic tooth is screwed on top to look like real teeth?

I seen this somewhere years ago and since then it's always been in my head to get a full mouth of these false but real looking teeth, although i think when i priced it a few years back it was about 27k for a full set!

That's the ones. A single implant is a couple of grand.

Hi,
I know these are expensive, but to be honest, if I lost a tooth I'd be 1st in the queue for the implants.
I do know of people who have gone abroad for this treatment. I know of people who have extensive dental surgery in Goa India. Very inexpensive and top quality work.
For me I would try that and get a holiday at the same time.
I will watch this thread with interest, as someone will know all the details.
This should be good to follow.
Best of luck whichever tratment you choose.
Lotsa luv x

Where in India?

I would love to find somewhere maybe more affordable for this.

Now you see my dentist said he wouldn't let his worst enemy have implants, so that is why I would like to do a little research before talking to him further about it.

I have seen some websites where they are offering an implant for about £600 a tooth.

Hi I have heard the other place to go for implants is Prague. However price varies from dentist to dentist. I was advised to have an implant but my dentist wanted to charge £2,500 for one tooth!! Another dentist up the road charges £1000 less!!

I have seen 3 dentists and I have been told by one that I may not need an implant if I clean under my tooth properly and it has worked so far - so I am pleased about that. I had x-rays today in fact and all was OK.

So please get more than one opinion as I have cancelled 2 appointments because I was not sure about going ahead and I have been right so far. You cannot go back, however if I had to have the tooth out I would have an implant as the other teeth will move and can cause other problems.

ps Be careful about prices quoted as they do not always incude the porcelain crown.

Hi,
It is family members of mine, who use a dentist in Panjim, a main city in Goa, (Goa is a state off India) I love to holiday there.
If you do a web or google type search "dental implants Goa" some sites will come up.
There may be a lot of poverty over there, but private health teatments are up at the top. I have been inside a dentist in Candolom the town I stay in when on holiday in Goa, it is top notch, and their 1st lanuage is English.
Goa season is November to late April, getting hotter by the day, definately not recommended by me for taking young children to for a holiday, heat too severe, sea extremly rough, even more so since the sunami (I know that is not the correct spelling)
Worth looking into for treatments, India mainland maybe even better....Deli etc.
Good luck with your research.
Lotsa luv x

Hmm. I'm of the opinion that you should choose and stick with your dentist through reputation, recommendation, a good client/dr relationship, aftercare available, trust and respect. I really don't think that the cost of treatment should come into it.

I know that they are a little different to implants but my friend has had all of her front teeth crowned due to acid erosion during her pregnancy and she has had nothing but problems with them. Her dentist has now admitted that he would think twice about opting for crowns straight away. Her gums receed, her mouth is often painfull and generally just uncomfortable.

My friend has had dental implants and spent £20k on them!
However, since having them done just after Christmas, she has been back to the dentist roughly 6 times as they keep falling out! Lol, sounds funny but its not very nice when were eating and all of a sudden, there it goes......Plop and comes out! and all you can see is a big old slivery looking peg hanging out of her gums!
Im not sure why this is happening as she did go to a very reputable Dentist !!

my mum was at the dentist last week and asked them about impnats, they said they do them for £500 per tooth

You could try contacting Felixstowe Dental Laboratory - Suffolk, Dentures, Denture Tooth repairs, Implants, Friatec Frialit 2 implants, Astra Tech implants, Nobel Biocare Branemark implants, Precision Attachments, Tooth coloured clasps, Sports mouth guards, Tooth whitening (. They'd be able to offer you impartial advice & give you all the low down (good & bad) without the scaremongering.

I'm sure as with any practical skill, some dentists doing implants are better than others. As technicians working alongside dentists at the Dental Lab they may also know who the better dentists are in your neck of the woods.
