Hi can any one advise. I applied tips and overlay to my niece's nails 3 weeks ago. On day 12, she broke 2. On day 13 she snapped another and instead of coming to me, she picked them all off! I know, I have seriously had words. She rang me to cancel her infills but asked that when I was back (I had to go down south the day after her infill appointment) could she have another set put on. Anyway, sorry this is long winded. She came today and when I looked at ther nails, it looked like there was still some acrylic on some of her nails, like, in the shape of the original overlay. But on the otherhand it did not look thick at all. I applied remover and foils to a couple of nails to see if it was acrylic. When I removed the foil, the nail was just the same. It is almost like there is a small dint in the nail plate in the shape of the acrylic. Could this be that in picking them off she has removed some layers? I just gave her a manicure as I did not want to apply anything else until I had checked with someone. Any advice would be really welcome as I am at a loss and needless to say, I am worried that I may have caused it  Have put a picture on here entitled dents but not sure where as I am new to this !

If she's picked them off, she's certain to have removed some layers of the nailplate. The other thing it might have been is if were overenthusiastic when you were taking off the shine when you were prepping last time, and now that the nail has grown up you now notice it. More likely to be that she has pulled them off tho. HTH x

Hi, I'm always pretty careful taking off shine, I get a bit neurotic about ruining the nail plate :) so may be the picking off has caused it. I have managed to put a picture on here of the nails and have called it dents, not sure where it is as I'm new to this but you may like to take a look at it for me and see if you think that is the problem. If you cannot see it properly, I have a closer shot of a couple of nails. Thank you :)

I agree ... these are known as 'rings of fire' and are caused usually by the technician

You have to remember that the nail plate is in its softest and most vulnerable state in zone 3 where the nail cells are new and not fully keratinized and very easily damaged. Keep your file flat to the nail and avoid digging into the plate when filing.

Hi. I never thought of that but I can see it may make sense. I do struggle with that zone. Thing is, I do go gentle but I still seem to see a line. Can't feel one but there is a faint line so I think if i don't get rid of it I will have lifting probs. Any advice? It would be most welcome

Ah! thanks for that Gigi. I must have been replying to Grafxgal at the same time as you were replying. I feel really bad now to think I have caused this. I will be very very cautious in future :(

If you make the product disappear in the first place, at application, then you won't have to file to make anything disappear when you finish the nails. This technique is explained in my book 'nailclass' available from Sweet Squared 0845 210 6060.

I'm sure you'll get it and when you do your troubles will be over.

Thank you, thank you thank you. Am ordering that today :)

Now that I see the picture, I agree with the others. xx
