Hi geeks
Are any of you who are stocking dermalogica finding that the sales have dropped right off as well as the interest in the brand?
I've spent thousands on the stuff and I'm beginning to feel like it was a huge costly mistake as it's just not making me any money.

It's now going to be going into fenwicks in Newcastle so I'm now starting to think even more so is it worth keeping in.
I have hundreds of pounds in stock that is dead money with it not selling.

Can anyone offer any advice at all?

Hey geeks dermalogica are now moving into department stores throughout the uk.
In Newcastle they're going into fenwicks.
I myself am a dermalogica stockist and I'm considering dropping the brand now to be honest as it hasn't sold particularly well over the past few months anyway despite us pushing it.

What's your thoughts on this?

When you say they are going into department stores do you mean into the cosmetics dept with their own counter and trained skin specialists? Would they offer full facial treatments or just what they can on counter?
I think that for the company they will probably do very well out of it like Clinique, Clarins etc

What it will mean for people like yourself I guess only time will tell. It could go one of 2 ways, like Clarins and become even more sought after and promote independant salons or it could do you out of business.

It could be a good thing hon, as the grand geek says it could help raise awareness of the brand and push customers towards the salon for treatments. If it does go in why not approach dermalogica and ask if customers in fenwicks could be given a discount voucher for a treatment at your salon? (unless of course they have a treatment room!) Or maybe they could be given a leaflet with all the local salons that also offer dermalogica treatments? I stock dermalogica also and think that more client awareness is a good thing.

I use Decleor, which has been in department stores for ages, and which I find has had no negative impact on my business. However, I made the decision to choose Decleor knowing they were in department stores. As far as I can tell Dermalogica has always made a big point of not being in stores and so I can understand why as a salon owner one might feel aggrieved. Especially so if one of the swaying factors in choosing the range was whether or not it was available in-store, and doubly so if salon owners have been encouraged to sell the "salon only" availability as a unique selling point.

I use Dermalogica in my salon and we sell quite well when we do 20% off offer on retail. I still make a quite good profit and clients are happy with this offer.

It's going to be treatments including facials with galvanic and high frequency. I'm just a bit pipped incase clients stop buying from us and start buying it there instead.

I can also see the positives to it as well in the way of brand awareness etc.
Fingers crossed!

I had the same issue with Bare Escentuals. Had stocked it for about 8 years and when it went into stores (which I was assured it never would!), my sales dropped right off. One of my personal issues was that I didn't have the space to stock the whole range as my salon was quite small so I needed to pick and choose what products I stocked. QVC was actually quite helpful as it got the brand-name more recognised and meant clients could order from me without the postage costs, but the high st stores killed it for me :-(

ahhh Dermalogica and its selling policy! Well since they have decided to sell online through their site, our online sales have plummeted down - leaving us with a massive stock to shift...as it's the brand one finds at every corner and in every salon in Essex...that might takes some years!

I just sent a load back. Am swapping all the niche products and poor sellers for cleansers and moisturisers.
As a company, they leave a lot to be desired at times.

I've thought about dropping a lot of the retail items as some just never sell

I find that the products used in the facials always sell well so keep them in stock even if you return the more niche products.
It's impossible to second guess which way your sales will go until you know how the store will be selling dermalogica ie on the shelf, a counter or a treatment room. It may be worth contacting the store in the guise of a customer to see if they can shed any light on the matter. Don't be despondant, if the store only have a counter they may be open to recommending local businesses who carry out dermalogica treatments.
It's a great product and I will travel miles to purchase it from salons. Make sure you are well advertised and I'm sure you'll have other people doing the same.

To be honest now that they have lost their 'bunny badge' I was wondering whether people who bought off them based around being able to offer an animal cruelty free product could ask for their money back.

I too am a Dermalogica stockist and feel so disappointed in the company too for a number of reasons:
firstly the promise that they were a 'salon only product' - this really is questionable, Fennicks you say nixnewcastle
secondly that they would never sell online! - well they do now and whats more are offering customers incentives that are not available to us as stockists to offer.
Trying to put small businesses off of selling online directly - if you do you have your right to return products to Dermalogica that have been returned to you from clients withdrawn. Also if you sell online directly you cannot be part of their 'online partnership scheme'.

I have stocked Dermalogica for 4 years now and I also had the same problem of selling certain products but have recently done my expert status and the products just fly off the shelves now.... I'm looking at selling online also as I have a lot of clients that work away and can't always get in the salon stick with or there a great company and you can always give discount c
