Hey guys, one of my clients asked me to have a look at her wee boys nails, (he bites them) she said there had been kind of pus stuff oozing out  I had a look and as far as I could tell looked like the nails were separating from the side walls and some at the hyponychium. Advised her to take him to a doctor but wondered if it really could have been onycholysis or if not what? xx

School sores? Was the pus sort of thick and gooey? Good call on the doc, cos if it is School sores he needs the meds.

Your advice was the correct advice. Take him to the doctor.

Onycholysis is not normally accompanied by pus unless the nails are infected by some bacteria or fungus. Or perhaps he has just abused them by biting. In any case we are not there to diagnose these problems so to the doctor he should go.

what are school sores? went today and client had'nt taken him but they had just been away on holiday he had stopped biting them no pus coming out or new seperation, but he bit them as soon as he got back! thing is he is obsessed with nails and I've promised to paint them if he stops biting them lol I think perhaps it has been onocholysis but coz he's out playing in the muck and biting his nails this has caused an infection! advised client to defo go to doc's again xx

Def should go to doctor and get it diagnosed correctly. It could be paronychia, If he bites the skin surrounding his nails then bacteria could of got in to cause this. Finger usually looks red and swollen and pus can ooze from nail wall. Poor little mite.
