]hi everyone i just wanted everyones opionion on supermarkets, chemists and drug stores nail varnishes. I just bought some nail varnishes from laura paige. They use to sale them in some chemists but my chemist doesnt supply them any more tried to serch for there website and still in business thank god!. ordered them 2 days ago got them today and they are amazing big bottles good colours and go on like a dream! not bad for 1.99 but i was just wondering can i use the on clients or have they got to be professional nail varnishes:?:

I use OTC polishes and laquers all the time. The only thing I do make sure I do is, use a good quality base and top coat. They may have some great colors, but not always do the have the best 'staying' power.

I would not dream of using an OTC range in my business. I want my clients to come to me for their nail needs, not spend their money in the drug store/chemist. Neither are OTC ranges even a fraction of the quality of a professional product.

When i done my training my tutors word was a 'nail varnish is a nail varnish they are all the same' and she was more concerned that you had a choice of at least 20 colours to offer your client, so i bought a whole load of attichude nail varnishs and thought they was great until i went to a client 1 day and she had her own OPI polish that she wanted me to use as it matched her outfit she was wearing, since then i have never looked back i know have a whole range of OPI, yes they are a bit dearer but you get what you pay for and they last which is good for customer satisfaction :D

Totally agree with this,it's like if you went to a hairdressing salon and she took out a box of hair colour as sold in Asda or Superdrug.Unprofessional and not to mention the loss of earning potential on your retail sales.

I hate it when clients come to me with their number 7 nail polish saying they love the colour and they want me to use it.I usually suggest we pick out one of my,'professional' polishes that match as closely as possible as I dont want to use a polish that I KNOW wont last anywhere near as long as my professional polish.Who gets the blame when it doesn't last???.....US!!!

i completly agree! if i went into boots and saw a gouregous colour say from number 7 i would prob buy it and use it on myself. i would then be really pee'd off a few days later whenit was chipped as im used to OPI and never experience chipping with OPI. if i didnt touch my toes up i could actually grow it off!! but i would never ever use the OTC polish on a client.

i wouldnt want to run the risk of them calling me two days later to say there polish is all chipped. with opi i have the greatest confidence that it will still be on in 2 weeks time!

hth,
