Hi everyone:green:,

At the moment I'm training for my professional gel nail tech certificates and vtct's.

Anyways, I will have some of my Trosani certificates soon which should allow me to do basic gels and refills, nail art and manicures and pedicures.

I've been trying to figure how to get myself known to salons who may want a nail tech. A friend of mine mentioned that the nail tech they had gave 10% of earnings as a freelance nail tech. So the idea is to send out emails to salons in the area offering my services. It goes like this:

Hello

I'm an Enthusiastic Student Gel Nail Technician studying with Fiona of One Stop Nail Shop in Mosta. I am working my way to receive my full professional nail technician VTCT certification. This includes basic and advanced nail enhancement treatments, basic and advanced nail art (of which I already have a good knowledge) and manicure and pedicures, plus health and safety procedures.

I am looking for a Beauty Salon in need of a freelance nail technician. I am willing to pay 10% of earnings if using available space in your salon and 5% for referrals. Of course in turn I shall refer my clients for treatments in your salon.

Attached are a couple of photos of nail art on natural nails and a set of plain gel enhancements and french tip enhancements that I have done recently.

If you should be interested please contact me either by email or on mobile no .....

So what do you think??? Please opinions needed.   :) :green:

Many thanks

Sounds good to me contacting them by email. I would maybe raise the rate to 20% though as i've found this is usually the going rate for rentals. Hope that helps

Hi nixnewcastle

Thanks for reply. I'm not sure what the nom rental rate is here in Malta so maybe I should quote "negotiable" in there somewhere?

Any more advice and opinions pls???????????

I like the idea of attaching photos of your work. I've recently hired a girl after her contacting me by email. She was in a similar situation to you, currently studying although she was looking for paid employment.

I had been thinking about looking for someone but hadn't gotten around to advertising the position, so you never know. It's definitely worthwhile contacting all the salons.

i definately think it's a good idea. Im not looking for any staff at the moment but if i got an email requesting work it may make me think, especially if you come across professional and keen

Thank you so much for your replies! :) I sort of needed the boost. :lol I haven't been working since having my kids, so that's 6 1/2 years of being a sahm. Looking for work again seems so daunting and things have changed so much like work etiquet. I used to work in an office so this is completely new for me. Not that I didn't used to meet clients, I used to be a graphic designer and client contact was very important. It's just the fact of working for someone else that makes me nervous. I don't know what will be expected of me other than a beautiful, healthy set of nails?!?

I would definately be interested in someone who has the initiative to email salons and get herself out there. Too many sit on their butts and whine about how they haven't managed to get work. Good on you! I wish you the best of luck! It may be worth offering the salon owner the opportunity to have a couple of nails done on her by you as anyone could have done the work in the photos. Not that I'm suspicious or anything!!
Keep trying even if at first it seems hopeless; you have the right attitude to succeed.

Ladies thanks for all the great comments. You've really helped me get the get-up-and-go feeling. I was a little anxious but now full of spirit. Many thanks again!!! :green:
