I know LCN are advertising one at £3k including training, but don't know whether it's a good machine or not as I don't know what to ask. I know the Crystal Clear has a good reputation, I didn't know Caci did one!

Just posted a lovely long reply and my computer crashed!! I'll start again...

Sassy- I have seen salons suggesting you have one a week for 4-6 weeks (as for all intensive courses) and then one a month maintainance (just as you would normally) I think Crystalclear is a well known make and they may be at EC. My mum had a session on her at a trade show and she was not asked any consultation questions at all (this really bothered me) but I guess the company (not mentioning who) had their demonstrators use it on the lowest setting-which could also be why we saw no real difference.

I know one thing for sure the machine was very expensive so asking for others experiences is a good idea!!! but on the other hand you can charge top dollar for it as it is a specialist treatment!!

Theresa-The reason I know quite a bit about skin is that I love reading cosmetic science books and researching ingredients and studies into different treatments. Some "beauty ingredients" are reccomended as treatments by doctors e.g salicylic acid and benzol peroxide so there is lots of info on the pros and cons out there!!! Also some techniques such as laser and electrolysis are available on the NHS. Microcurrent toning machines for example were first invented to treat bells palsy and botox to treat lazy eyes!

Anyway that is going off the point...
I am looking to upgrade my skin care line by using Swissdermyl as I am very impressed by their range. I have used Sothys in the past which is great but only provides "set facials" (I like to mix and match) and some of Collin's products are excellent too. I think with these though you have to commit to them as your main line and buy a start up package. I have heard very good things about Academe too and they may be at EC along with Sothys and Collin.

I personally want to go down the facial peel "chemical" route rather than the mechanical "microdermabrasion". Glycolic acid is unbelievably excellent and natural.

Sorry to waffle on

HAve you looked at the Nimue range Weezie as it's a Derma cosmeceutical range with fab results, they have a mild Glycolic mask peel which is ace?

Also could you recommend any books on skin care etc as I really want to up my knowledge on it but find good books so hard to find.

Do you get some kind of instant resuts with the chemical results or does it take a number of sessions before you see any change.

Have you heard much about the dermalogica range of products as I am also looking for a good quality skin care range as well.

Chemical peels definately have their place in the market, but be really careful, there's a skin down time of about 2 weeks - at the salon I work in we have a consultant dermatologist who comes in for these types of treatments, and although the results eventually are good, it is so important that you clients are aware of the skin down time!

We also use dermalogica, very good no frills range, sells very well, and professional treatments nice, but as an anti-ageing range, it lacks somewhat - Elemis very very good!

Sorry can't answer your question of payback regarding the machine, as I don't own the business, but I can tell you we do alot of treatments, so much so we have one machine in each outlet (there are two), and it must get used on average 3+ times a day in each! Charge wise it depends on what the client wants - we do a Caci non-surgical facial with a microderm first for £70 (1 hour treatment). Very good results too. HTH:)

As with any facial the skin will imediately look better in texture and glowing immediately however the true results will be seen after as the skin continues to exfoliate as it does with many products. This is why an intensive course (once a week for 4-6 weeks) and then monthly is needed in most cases it is difficult to convince most clients to come for these courses though!!

You need to educate clients that there is no quick fix- you need to make sure they use the homecare as they are doing things to their face everyday and could be undoing your hard work every time they strip the skin with very alkaline cleaners or clog it up with heavy creams.

I tell the client to come back every 4 weeks if they are serious about seing an improvement 6 weeks at the most. There is a real reason for this it is because the skin renews itself about every 28 days (this changes with age)

I'm slightly scared to type this as I know Derm******* is a very popular brand. I feel this is purely due to clever marketing. I have had clients who have not been happy with this range but still continued to use it (it makes no logical sense to me). The word fad springs to mind especially when you see those therapists with their futuristic head sets at the show diagnosing peoples skin!! what is wrong with the old mag lamp!! and why are so many therapists needing their skin analysed can't they do it themselves there are only four types to choose from dry, sensitive, oily, combination to choose from!! anything else found on the skin is a skin condition e.g dehydration, acne rosacea!!!

I would personally not be a lemming following the pack and be an individual, clients love to know why you chose your brand and what is in it. It is so easy to sell something you believe in as you know it will work and use it yourself!!

:)

That's why I chose Nimue, I wanted an unheard of brand that gave immediate results, with an easy homecare regime that is affordable. if you use the same as everyone else then why would they come to you. People, are very loyal to it too, I get emails from people all around the country who have used it abroad and are looking for a salon stockist local to them.

Hey Yvette I have had 6x 60% glycolic peels once a week for 6 weeks and my skin did not look any red or irritated after I even had one done in the salon I worked in at lunch and went straight back to work- my skin ended up incredibly flat at the end. I had suffered from very bad acne as a teen and my skin was very bumpy at the end of the sixth peel my skin was silky smooth (no kidding). This treatment would have cost me £65 each peel but I had them for free as I worked there.

The dermatologist carries out the surgeon grade peels that Theresa and me would not be alowed acess to so there would be no down time.

I am shocked that you can carry out any other treatment with microdermabrasion I have heard of this before but if the microdermabrasion is as good as it says it is then this would surely be too much for the skin?

There are some fruit acid peels you can carry out with facials and also glycolic in a low perscentage not really sure exact % deffinately 6-15% that you can also incorporate in a facial I know for a fact that 40% and up peels are performed on their own and include cleanse, peel (on for a short time 8-10 mins) then neutraliser, cooling mask, moisturise and sun protection.

Jan Marini do some excellent peels but I think you need to have been qualified for a certain amount of time before you can use them :)

Exactly Sassy why come to you if they can get the products and treatments from any old Tom, Dick or Harry!!!:)

This treatment offers the microderm at the start of the facial and last approx 15 minutes, what it does is remove the dead skin cells at the surface layer, enabling the microcurrent to work more efficiently. This treatment would be offered as an option to a standard course of caci non-surgical eg two caci n/s and then one caci with mda (no more than once a fortnight).

I am not a therapist, but PA/Reception Manager, so although I don't do the treatment myself, I do see the results on the clients, and they are always very happy and with good reason to be. HTH

Just to say thanks for that link, it's very useful. (tried to rep you, but I need to spread the lurve!!!)

you're welcome :)
