Hi
Just wondering how those of you that do eyelash/eyebrow tinting do a patch test when you are mobile? Is there a way of posting it to avoid having to drive to drop it off as some of my clients can be far away xx

Hey

Im not sure you could post it could you couldnt be sure that they had really applied it cause im sure some will just claim they have when they havnt!! Also i think things like tint im far happier to mix it then apply it straight away not mix it then wait for the postie to post it!! I think most who fancy havin tints tend to mention it before hand so if youve always got a tube of it with you that might help HTH xxx

thanks for your reply. i have not done the course yet as im stil thinking what to go for next. I think maybe not tinting as the patch test might put people off or ill end up having to do loads of travelling xx

I dont know if you test eyelash tint for the same stuff as hair tint, nut i was once sent a patch to put behind my ear by a big salon in glasgow.

I assume you must be able to buy them somewhere.

Surely, if mixed, eyelash tint would "go off" by the time it had arrived at your client's in the post? On account of all the peroxide having reacted by then? So it would then not be a representative test, as the chemistry of what they would receive in the post is not the same as freshly applied product...

Hmm, would it not be a bit iffy insurance-wise if the client did have a reaction to the actual tint? There's no way of knowing that they've actually done the patch test but I suppose there's no way of knowing, when you patch test a client, that they haven't just gone home straight away, jumped in the shower and washed it off

Spot on Ruth all the oxygen would of worn off so would be ineffective.

When I did my tinting course they sent me a patch test kit which I somehow mixed and applied, although I can't remember how it came to me off hand, I'll see if i can find out. I did test myself and my goodness am I glad I did cos I had an awful reaction and I thank heavens it wasn't on my eyes!

I was wondering the same thing myself with being mobile. I think to a certain extent you have to trust your clients to do a patch test, unless you can incorporate it into another treatment. I charge more for my call out than a tint costs so my clients would have to have another treatment (although reading that back that doesn't help me at all)

I will find out how I got the stuff for patch testing and get back to you!

Lx

thanks that would be great. would like to do the training but dont want to have to travel to the client twice for one treatment xx

Mine was actually a patch which really just looked like rice paper but you were to peel it and stick it on.

I always ask a client at their first appointment (not including tinting) if they would like to be patch tested for tinting in the future.

Same here, i always carry around my tinting kit and ask them if they would like to have a patch test incase they ever want an eyelash/brow tint and mark it on their record card with the date for insurance purposes.

but what about the thuya tints, you have to do them 24-48 hours prior to tinting them? I know the thuya perm patch test lasts for 6 months but not the tinting patch testing!!!

Good interesting thread btw:)

I thought that the tint patch test lasted 3 months provided nothing changed such as pregnancy, medication change?

Same here.

If client lives a wee bit out of the way I have asked them to pop into a salon convenient for them to ask for tint test prior to our appointment.

as already replied I also carry tint kit in car and do test where possible.

can be annoying when mobile - I tend to check diary and try to arrange to pop in to do tint test the next time I'm in their area.

If you cant do a patch test or post one can you not get them to sign a disclaimer or something? so then you are covered if they had a reaction...?
I am going to be doing tinting mobile too & that was the only way i could think of covering yourself..

I would personally go to the client and patch test them myself. That way I know for sure that they have been tested correctly - sorry I just couldn't trust someone doing a patch test at home in case they did it wrong, or not even bothered!

Imagine what would happen then! It's not worth it.

When you have a client book with you, offer them a patch test for tinting/perming, then you will have something on record.

i was wondering about this too, as i do my course on it in a couple of weeks. i'll ask my trainer when i'm there. but the idea on a 1st appointment do a patch test is great!! x

sarah - i saw on another thread you were training at the scottish beauty school on tues so is that where your doing your eye treatments too? i was hopng to do that course in august but think the course is full and decided to do eyelash extensions instead for now. Im doing nail art at the scottish beauty school on tues xx
