Hi, just a quickie!!

I'm about to embark on my beauty career, found this website and has found it very informative so far so well done =] However, I'm going to be renting a room above a hair salon and I need a skincare range to do my facials.. I've bought some stuff from the Priadara range at Ellisons website to get me started, however, am looking for a bit better quality. Within my price range of course!! I'm not talking Dermalogica, that's well beyond what I can afford. I shall be looking to buy the skin range once I've saved up money from working in the salon. Can anyone recommend a good brand, or should I stick with Ellisons own brand?! Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Cheers!! xx

I know a lot of geeks on here like Eve Taylor and there is no opening order so you can just get what you need. They also do a mobile kit with smaller sizes so that you can try without spending a fortune.

I personally use Nimue and love it but the opening order whilst not high maybe more than you want to spend at the moment.

What is your budget?

Well, as much as I can afford to save... I'm guessing things won't be fully booked all day every day and will be living off peanuts for a start, so in the region of about £500-£800? Or is that too little?! x

I think that is a fairly decent amount to start with. I think my first Nimue order was around £800 so not bad and I do know that Dermalogica opening order has dropped quite significantly, but still about double what you are wanting to pay.

A lot depends on what you want from a facial range, do you want to go down the more derma-cosmeceutical route like MD, Environ (now there's a thought if you do - thinking out loud here). Environ's opening order is £500 plus I think about £100 for training and I know there are many geeks that rave about it, I myself very nearly went for Environ.

Take some time, look around and if you can get to GMex (Pro Beauty North) next weekend, there will be tonnes of skincare companies there. You can however get bogged down with information as I did and making a decision may become harder for you.

Look at your target market, what you want from your facial range and above all, don't over commit yourself.

Take a look at PURE FIJI, there start up for facials is under £300:hug:

I agree with crystal wags!! check out Pure Fiji . Its a fantastic, high end facial line at an affordable price. My client love it!!!

Thanks so much, I'm gonna have a look into Pure Fiji and Environ. All the salons in the area have Dermalogica, so was looking for something less expensive as it's not particually an affluent area!! And also something different to offer than the usual.. It's a bloody mindfield though all this starting up malarkey!! xx

Moor Spa is a great company and you don't have to break the bank to buy there stuff.
I have been using it for about a month now and my clients are loving it.
Jo is a member of the site drop him a pm he will send you all the info you need.

The only comment I will make is that you can get MUCH better quality than Priadara for that amount of money. I used to use it so I know what I'm talking about. I seriously wish I'd done more research before I spent so much on it.

Rouge,

I only bought a few cleansers and moisturisers just for set-up until I find a decent brand to go with, I am not going to stick with that range as it actually smells like Pritt-Stick!! I'm not even joking!! So I spent about £50 just getting some Pridara bits until I can fathom out which range to invest in..

Pure Fiji is looking good, but I think I'm biased as I love the smell of coconut.. mmmmm!!! Thanks for the input, you're all a big help =] x

You wont regret using Pure Fiji.

My rep is called Anna and she is fantastic, if you call her she will probably send you out some free goodies!!!

Her direct number is 0208 364 1662.

I found out about the brand at the london Excel Show a few years back, and was amazed there is actually 7 different fragrances, and they all smell absolutely gorgeous!!

They also have a comprehensive body range too, with around 18 different body treatment rituals.

I also use them for Mani and Pedi too and find them extremely cost effective.

HI GEEKS, i ALSO FOUND PURE FIJI LAST THIS YEAR AND WAS VERY KEEN TO USE BUT WHEN I WAS READING THROUGH THEIR INFO IT STATED THEY ONLY SUPPLY TO ESTABLISHED SALONS, WHICH MADE ME WANDER WHETHER I WAS TOO SMALL? DOES ANYONE KNOW OR I SUPPOSE IM BEST RINGING THEM? THANKS X

When i was starting off i was still a small salon. Initially i was working from home, from my garage.

Initially i was put off by same thing, nevertheless i decided to go to their stand at the Excel and speak to them. Ater i spoke to one of their reps and explained my circumstances they agreed to help me.

Now i own my own salon in London.

I think sometimes honesty is the best policy in these circumstances, so i suggest you give them a call or drop them an email.

Before you decide what range to go with, do check out Eve Taylor. Her products are lovely, aromatherapy blends, very affordable and the difference between retail and professional prices is great too. You don't need a minimum order and basically - there are no rules. I've been using them for 2 years now, after trying just about everything else. They sell well too, especially as clients benefit from buying via their therapists rather than directly online. Worth a peek I'd say.
