I think it's ok for the nails to look about 60 pink and 40 white at the very most so long as it's what the client wants rather than it coming down to a general lack of skill and/or understanding on the nail techs part. Some people want young funky and obviously fake looking nails...it's a far cry from the long slender sophisticated nail that an elegant lady might go for so different strokes for different folks i guess.

Maybe..i'm trying to visulaise what a 60/40 looks like.
I'd rather if they want the "porn star"look that they went elsewhere,if they refuse to take my professional advice on how its going to look (off balance)
As mad as it maybe to turn away one this far down the nail bed.
Not a good walking advert for my business

Porn star cheap nasty nails spring to my mind.

Ahhhhhh roll bad about 8 years and white tips were my fave! Hahahaha!

How lovely it is to grow up and realise what a div I looked. I do have beautifully long nail beds (if I do say so myself) so never quite looked as bad as soon I've seen. I think I used to have 70/30 with glitter tips :D

Absolutely, but we can charge more and take longer over the latter.

I'm happy to let the discount end of the market take care of the young clientele who want this look at as cheap a price as possible.... these girls will become our grown up, premium price paying clients of the future. Seen it happen so many times, when their taste changes as they age, and they have enough income, they will seek out a premium service with a focus on design and client customisation.

Is there only me that like white tips? Lol !
I really do still like them BUT I only like a bit of white to show, and I have long, thin nail beds so it doesn't look bad,I don't think so anyway lol

What I have noticed is, I have a lot of people from the UK and America on Instagram, and I could 99% of the time tell you which country has done which nails just from the photo.

The American nails are really loud, blingy, lots of crystal and charms and really bright colours.

Where as I find the UK nails a lot more simple.

Both are fab in their own ways, not criticising at all, I just find it interesting the different styles the country's have x

The square shape of some of these 'aforementioned' nails, always reminds me of the little plastic spoons you get to eat a small tub of ice cream at the cinema...:p

PMSL so true, a lady at the school had her nails done, the squarest, whitest tips halfway down and the thinest layer of gel over them.

Mind you I shouldn't laugh my sculpted nails are nothing to shout about, my clients are happy but I hate them, always look too bulky

Perhaps i shouldn't be too hard on myself as I've been doing extensions since august, trying to get them looking natural is tricky, I think I've done ok but by the time I get the gelish on and finish the nail i see imperfections and think to myself "damn I wish I'd seen that before".
Doing a Brisa course tomorrow, got a Crystal nails E-file course in the pipeline and now i think I'm going to need an enhancements one to one.

Hubby did say "you've done your all your courses so now you can start making some money!" thats what he thinks lol.

Sculpted acrylics done in reverse , extend the nail bed . Simple .
Hate tips iv never seen any that look good and they just snap because of the weakness at the stress point. .

I love a white tip sian- I think they look so graceful and elegant and I don't get bored of them like I do with polish and art - but only if the ratio of white is right and only on those with long slim nail beds! I have long skin nail beds and long slim fingers so on me I think that works best as opposed to other styles!

If I could I would wear mine like it all the time! Only problem is I can't find a nail tech round here who can do pink and whites for me well and I can't be arsed to sculpt on myself! Lol

I have a client that likes long white tips, really long, but thats what she wants :irked: You'll all freak out if I put the picture up !

I don't even have white tips in salon. The girl who owned the first salon I worked in didn't allow them. She said it was a lazy way of creating a french finish (before anyone shouts at me & tells me they're not lazy I didn't say it she did lol). That has always stuck with me & I had to learn how to create a nice smile and finish.

French tips can look beautiful when used on the right nails and when they are an attractive colour and not Neon/tippex white. It isn't lazy to use them or any other kind of tip but to keep the look going one has to learn and to know how to do smile lines ... So if one always takes the easy route of using a white tip to accomplish their smiles, it isn't going to help them to learn the skill of how to do them.

If you Are already good at doing your smiles, then you never need to use French tips ever. That is why I have never taught any student, without being sure they could do great smiles before they finished their time with me.
