Freaking out over colour of my nail bed..

ok, perhaps im over reacting now but i cant stop looking at my nails - there is deffinately a darker area - almost like a shadow but quite subtle pinky/purple at the base of most of my nails coming from the cuticle area
it is most noticeable on my ring finger and middle finger .. i have never noticed it before, may have even always been there but i made the mistake of going on google which brought up heart disease, lung problems, and melanoma - im 4 mths pg, and am wondering if it is something to with this ? im sure i saw iron diffeciency some where on google too .. would go and see my gp but fully booked already !! now have to wait until tues .. hoping the discolouration will just disapear otherwise i will have to distract / console myself by eating half a dozen easter eggs, lol

i work part time in a care home and yesturday we took in an elderly gentleman for TLC who's nails were blue - had never seen anything like it before, the nurse explained he had all these illness (mainly lung problems and renal failure) im obvioulsy not saying this is what i have, but when i was making a cup of tea this morning - my hand was on the kettle and my nails just seemed to jump out at me - they looked so strange with the discolouration at the base of the nail .. im now looking at them again and its very very subtle but deffinately there - perhaps i wouldnt have given it a second thought had i not seen that poor mans nails

will someone please please put me out of my misery, i have to see my gp next week for an antenatal check up and will mention it then but im going to be obsessing over my nails all weekend!

think i might be over reacting, lol
im booked on to do the finger nails naturally course, perhaps not such a good idea now - i'll be scrutinising everyones nails for underlying illnesses, lol

Yes I do think you are over-reacting ... how do you FEEL? You will see you GP soon and he will advise you. Hair and nails change all through pregnancy.

Your manicurist is not trained to advise you about any nail disorders .. she is trained to do a manicure and nothing more. I would not be asking her opinion as she will not be trained to give one.

See your GP next week and enjoy your Easter Holiday with the rest of your family.

i think im just paranoid about this pregnancy and my health, i have had several losses in last couple years including one at 21 weeks .. so i tend to pick up on any little thing .. it now seems even the colour of my nails, lol


i will mention it at my antenatal check up with the gp next week - she knows im neurotic (with this pg) so wont at all be suprised, lol

i just know that had i not been so shocked at that elderly mans blue nails, i wouldnt have given it a second thought

oh well, manicure is now booked .. will just try and enjoy some well deserved pampering "me" time before the busy easter weekend!

You are perfectly right to take notice of any changes during pregnancy ... and your nails can give indications of your health both bad and GOOD! So if you are feeling well, then do mention it to the GP and let him/her advise you .. that is what I am saying. Not google or an untrained manicurist. I love google but for specifics they are obviously not reliable as they are so general.

Mention it to your GP, BUT I'm almost sure nothings wrong hun.

My nails are quite purple/dark pink around the lunula and fades out to a normal pinkish tone at the end, and I'm not the slightest sick. Remember during pregnancy your body contains more blood, and change it faster, so I'm sure you can see this on the nailbed also, I'm almost sure I could during my two.... xxx
