A lot of people got fed up and took the advice to move over to Facebook to chat and stay in touch with the banned people.

Can you not tell them to make a new account on here lol x

No. First off, they'd get found out and banned again, and secondly, it was made clear that their input wasn't welcomed, so they aren't gonna beg. There are very few hairdressers on here, and now that the nasty ones have been weeded out of our Facebook groups, we have a much better time on there.

Lol, agreed. Now that we weeded out the drama queens, Facebook is soo much better. ;-)

Absolutely, add in all the *******, liars and trolls, and it's nirvana. Plus of course we actually know who we all are. Nobody has sock accounts or pretends to be something they're not. It's much easier to check backgrounds than on here. :D

Less false accusations flying round here too!

It's like that film sister act when sister mary clearance leaves the convent and everybody wants her back and goes searching for her around a casino!
Who's with me to get our sisters back?? Lol

I don't think they would want to come back, after the way they were treated

I don't know what happened to make them be banned.

But I will say this even if there is banter on here some people will take it to heart. Some geeks always said never take things to things to heart on here. it's just a bit of banter, but I have seen 1 person who was really offensive in her posts and glad the horse face is gone!

I totally agree with you there Stewie! They weren't just geeks with banter n constantly making me laugh, they had a wealth of knowledge that they would input professionally. And missy muffin with her gorgeous cats!

For clarity, our ban list (outside of spammers) is very small. It take a certain special... er.. "talent" to get banned here. Sometimes those that received the honour were smart and talented, but that isn't a special pass to treat others in an unacceptable manner.

I don't miss anyone as such but if I had to choose, then I miss Tammie.

The banned ones do have their own forum. It isn't a public forum so no amount of searching would find it. But it is successful, full of information and fun.

I miss all the ladies from Rant thread, especially Virtues - good for them if they have fun somewhere else. Gotta admit that I get seriously bored here.

Very pleased to hear there is a Village of the Banned. It isn't the first time one has been built and most likely not the last time either.

We are all for having fun but not at the expense of other members or in turning SalonGeek.com into a casual Facebook rant pad.

The core purpose of this site is to engage, support, share and educate while promoting professionalism. I can understand how that may be boring to some and why some would want to "fun" things up, but when that fun stops being harmless and starts to get into the realm of game playing it detracts from the sole purpose that brought you here in the first place, and becomes time to move on.

Hope that makes sense :)

It's a difficult one. To be able to educate and encourage, you've generally got to be fairly successful in our disciplines to start with. College students leading college students helps nobody.
A huge amount of the successful hair geeks have either been banned or scared away. I don't know if it's the same for nails, as I rarely bother to look on that forum.
Some of the longstanding hair geeks, myself included, have prided ourselves on contributing and helping as a way of giving back to the industry. Sadly it's not always seen that way.
There's only so much abuse people will take. When SG has affected my REAL, non virtual life, then it makes me realise that my contribution isn't seen in the way it's intended. I now post less and less, and think carefully before I try and help anyone.

I do miss certain people but we can go to facebook or email and continue friendships with those people.I think it depends on what view you have of geek as to what you miss I think you ask yourself if it were to go and geek no more what would you miss the most.
The information, the helping with questions, help with running a business and keeping up to date or the people and the banter.

I agree with many of your points above Dawn.

If you are new to the profession, you certainly want help to be given by veterans that have experience in the topic at hand. However you equally do not want (or deserve) to be belittled or be answered by a troll or an arrogant know it all. I would rather have students working together to find a constructive answer than an arrogant know-it-all criticizing my efforts because they need a bit of a "pick me up".

People appreciate the time and experience that veterans to our industry lend those that are newer, but not when the price of receiving that experience is often your dignity.

There are still plenty of excellent hair geeks around, including those who are brand ambassadors for Joico, TiGi & Aveda.

Obviously, they are very busy people and for that reason, tend not to comment on the more mundane threads. However, there's still a good pool of well qualified and experienced geeks willing to provide support to both newbies and veterans alike.

I perfectly understand your point, this forum is extremely useful and educational and it should stay this way but frankly I couldn't see anything really nasty going on here even though I was here 2-3 times a week (not for hours but still). I have no idea (and no interest) why guys got banned but I can't believe they've done anything extreme (even though I'm not a friend of any of them), I'm not buying it. Also as a former admin I know there's plenty of tools to deal with '****uations' and discipline people and ban is the last solution - so to me, in my personal opinion, it all looks a bit like Salon Geek Village now, personal games etc. It was just nice to have a little laugh or rant after hard day at work, that's all. Oh well, nevermind.
