I have just finished my course for gel nails and i'm very happy with the course. but a couple of months ago i did a night time course and they way they showed me to apply the gel was literally paint it on, ie as you wld varnish and the strengh is in the thin layers, and great a build on the smile line for extra strenght.

However, this course that I've just finished have a different method. :irked:

Firstly, do your prep, base, white tip and for the pink they got me to place a blob of gel close to the end of the nails and push it back to create a pillow and or ridge all around the edge of the nail plate and swipe off to the free edge. Then place a bead of build in the centre and work it accross the nail to create a build on the smile line.

I seem to be using alot of product, has anyone else ever heard of this method or what is everyone else doing?

Wld really apprec. your comments:confused:

Each gel brand has their way of application (which is why it's important to do a conversion day with each brand).

Which gel/s are you using?

I'm using synergy young nails, and find the product fine. Did ask when I was doing the course and they said that it was the way that they apply their product?

Was just wondering if it was the norm? or does most gels just have a thin layer applied each time?

I know each of their products have diff consistency and have to be applied diff but to get the build and clean finish I have to buff some of the product off? just don't understand it but if its what it takes, its what it takes.

is there an easier way?

If that's the way they teach you to apply the product then I would continue to apply the gel as taught.

I don't think there is a 'norm' with gels, they all have little tweaks that are different to others

It's quite usual to buff to shape the gel enhancement before applying the gloss gel.

Easier isn't always best, follow the manufacturers guidelines and teaching and you will get the most of the product :green:

Yes I had already guessed you were using Young Nails Synergie as this is the way to apply it. You will get the best results by following what you were trained to do with it. You will find, if you do use it properly, that you have a strong and very long lasting product which will not lift or discolour.

You can do natural nail overlays by using the Young's Mani-q, this gives a more natural look to the nail and more flexibility and, of course, there is the Flex gel rather than the Builder which can be applied thinner than the builder, it is a matter of choice.

I am sure if you have any queries you can contact your educator or contact Young Nails themselves, they will be happy to help you.

There is also a Young Nails social group on here where you can chat to other Young's users. Go to the Community tab above and choose Social Groups and you will see us there. :) xxx

I guess i knew that the way they were training us was a good method because i was happy with the result but was just wondering if thats they way that others use it.

Great advice, will check out the young nails groupies - tks

more often than not its the thinner gels that are applied in more of a paint on fashion. the thicker ones are more suitable for the type of application youve learned with young nails. this sort of application just wouldnt work with a thin gel as it wouldnt hold the shape .

always best to use the techniques taught on the companies course as they will have been tried and tested for the specific products you were taught to use.
