Hey everyone

Just a question for you all! i do gel nails and am thinking about maybe doing a course in acrylic aswell do any of you do both? im a beautician really and just do nails like nails arent my main thing so im not sure but i am doing quite alot of nails and just wondering which you find to be more popular? and if you do 1 is there really any point doing both??

Sorry waffled a bit there lol!

Your advice would be great tho!

Thankingyou all!! xx

i hardly do any gel and nearly all l+p but thats just how it is round here where i live. it varies from place to place. but personally im glad i trained in both because at least then you can offer both.

i do both and get an equal amount of bookings for both but i have to say i much prefer l&p, i find it much easier and do try and talk people into it l&p instead of gel!

I work with gel and love it, but I am training in sculpt l&p at the moment as well and I really like that too, I think to be able to offer either system is a must really, I know I have lost a few potential clients by not offering l&p, hence the training.. xxx

I offer both but have far more call for L & P. I also enjoy L & P more. I think its is a bonus to be able to offer both but not essential. Most clients will be happy to have what ever you recommend.

I started in l&p 8 years ago, but converted over to gel after a year and dropped the l&p altogether. I've just moved into a salon that was only l&p so have had to brush up on those skills and do about 50/50. I have no preference at all and am happy doing either.

I have found that it is great to offer both as you get 100% client retention, and if they have problems with one system it is great to offer the other. I would say though make sure you have really mastered one system before moving on to another, it makes life easier IMO!

I'm a gel girl at heart but I am also training in L&P enhancements as ive missed out on potential custom due to not being able to offer the client L&P.

I think it is great to offer both, you might find out like me that you feel as though your hitting your head against a brickwall as L&P tests your patience lol just don't give in.

Learn to do all types of enhancements and you won't miss one customer.

Facts are facts, and the fact is that L&P is the most demanded nail service in the world.

There are the odd pockets of territory where someone has pushed a system and made clients more aware of it so it is asked for but in the main L&P is the more popular and for good reasons.

I do both Gel and L&P... I am much better at L&P and it is quicker for me.. I find that 90% of my clients ask for L&P.
I would reccomend the training... like the other geeks said.. you don't want to miss a potential client.

I trained in L&P but never felt really happy with it. I switched to gel and loved it but always felt annoyed with myself about the L&P.

I retrained in L&P with the fabulous Gigi and started offering it again as well as the gel.

I have to admit though that gel is by far my favourite.

I only do Gel but I don't miss out...if someone rings asking for Acrylic...(I have never had a client ask for L&P) I explain that I use a Acrylic Gel...(as we all know L&P...Gel...are all from Acrylic).....I sell my gel....and get the booking.

Thanks for your advice everyone! nearly everyone i do for gel says that they have heard l&p is not as good as gel etc so i was just wondering what you all thought so thanx for your help!! xx

Well of course, this is the sort of thing gel technicians who are not confident in their work will say to frighten peeps of from going to their competition!! Pretty stupid thing to say as 1. it's untrue and b. many more people and for more than 30 years have been happily wearing L&P.

well i guess its just a matter of opinion really as to which people prefer maybe these people had just heard it from ppl who dont like l and p.

Think ill just stick with gel i think the smell of acrylic would be a nightmare in my small salon!! lol

Do them ALL as has already been said. Be prepared for EVERY eventuality.
Most clients, after hearing the gel bull**** end up with L&P.
I've no probs with gel its a nice system to work with but am very CROSS at the way gel is marketed atm.

Well I have to say that nearly all my clients haven't heard of Gel, I just explain that it is a different system, I would NEVER say gel was better than acrylic, (very few know it as l&p) that is just plain idiotic, and as Gigi said people have been quite happily wearing it for 30 odd years.
The training courses wouldn't still be as popular either if it wasn't wanted anymore. x

wow!! ok! how is gel marketed that bothers you so much???

I love gel but I swear people who ask for it nearly always say it is 'because acrylic ruins your nails' I've nearly worn my voice out explaining but I thik I should have saved my breath:rolleyes:

im not slating acrylic im just saying thats wot clients have said to me in the past

I assume that was for me to answer??
Adele pretty much answered for me in her post. Clients do not realise that gel contains the same as L&P and they get a lot of stories from salons trying to promote gel, for whatever reason, about it being kinder to your nails and more natural etc.
