Sorry if this has been covered before, but I am not a nail geek and a bit clueless about this. But I have had a few clients ask me about a semi permanent polish used on their toes with gel!

Please can anyone tell me how good it is and also can you train to do it without being trained in enhancements?

:rolleyes:thanks!

I wouldn't think that you could no. The gel polishes need to be put on the top of enhancements to become permanent. They wouldn't adhere on their own. Hence you would have to put some kind of enhancement overlay on first.

The good news is that toes are easy to enhance so why not go for it?? I'd say that 25%+ of the nail business done in the area in which I live is done on toes.

Thankyou I will look in too it, is it easier to do an enhancement on the toes than fingers?

Yes it is. Basically after a thorough preparation of the nail plate, you just paint a layer or 2 of the gel on like nail polish cure and then add your colour or Permanent French an cure.

Because toes are so protected and relatively 'unused', unlike hands, it is not necessary to build a 3D structure to take all the stresses and strains that fingernails have to live with. Which makes an overlay much easier for anyone to apply.

I may have misunderstood your query entirely but will try to answer as I see it. forgive me if I'm wrong.

Calgel is a gel but can be applied as a polish. A specific nail prep is required, but then the chosen colour gel can be applied directly to the nail plate followed by top coat/gloss.

A base coat is not necessarily required but is optional and the removal is by soaking off which can be done in about 20 minutes to half an hour. French soak off is about half an hour.

It is long lasting, gives strength to the natural nail, chip resistant and can be used over tips or sculpts if needed. It is lovely on both fingers and toes.

Apart from this, I personally find that any reputable nail polish/enamel used over good gel nails lasts longer than polish/enamel on natural nails if correct prep has been applied.

Not sure if this is the answer you are looking for but hope it helps.

Thankyou thats just what Im looking for. are there any other companies that do this other than calgel?

I am not a Biosculpture geek, but I think Biosculpture is applied in a similar fashion. A Bio geek would need to confirm this.

With CND Brisa gel toes you just paint on a base layer of clear gel, and then add your coloured gel as the polish. Voila! You buff off (which is very very quick when you want to change the colour.

Hi There

Yes Light Elegance Colour gels can be applied to the toes with just a layer of our Bonder first for adhesion ( plus normal prep ). Then two coats of Gel Colour and top coat.

I wear gel polish on my toes all year round . lasts me about 6 weeks before I have to apply again because of growth :)

As Gigi said Go for it... Do a short course in gel nails. I personally use IBD but CND brisa is a good choice also. When I started Gel nails almost 5 years ago CND didn't make gel so that is why i was trained with IBD and have just stuck to what i know,

Anyway.. When your clients love their toes they are going to ask about their fingernails.. and as Gigi said fingernails need strength added to them..so training will be needed.

Go for it and let us know how you get on,
X Mel

look into the range of nobility soak off gels.
easy application and lots of colours to choose from and most likely there is an educator in your region. you'll also find they are a lot less expensive than the bio or calgel ranges.
