Glitter and natural nails

Hi

I have got some fine glitter which you may of read about before on one of my posts and I want to put it on natural nails. I did a search and found out that I can put clear nail polish or top coat on the nails then dip them in the glitter and tap off the excess, is this right? Then its says I have to apply another coat of clear to seal it but wont the glitter make a mess of the top coat brush?
