Hi

I've been asked to do a set of glitter tips this weekend, not done these before and so need some guidance (couldn't get in tutorials to see if this is covered here!!!)

First of all glitter ...I need some!!! I've read on here that any glitter from craft shops etc is ok to use rather than specialised nail glitter - is that right?

Secondly, applying it .. I assume dip the brush in monomer, then clear acrylic and then glitter, and then continue to apply as you would usually do with the white... or is it the other way round?

Thirdly - I always use opaques, can I still do this using glitter - If so I assume I would need to make sure that I dont drag the product over the glitter tip (I always drag a small amount which doesnt usually show, although I spose it would effect the look in this case? Or is it best to use clear/sheer?

Finally, can you use the same brush fore the whole nail or is it best to use a diff one for the glitter tip?

I have my nail trainer at the ready to have a practice tonight once I ve had some advice!!!

Thanks guys

Tracey

The way I do it is to mix some clear powder with the glitter and apply like Im doing a pink and white set, I have visions of trying to apply the glitter in any other way (ie. paint it on, dipping nail etc) going horribly wrong and just being really messy. HTHs x.

I find opaque powders make the glitter a little duller than I'd like.

Thanks .. will havea try .. sounds easier I guess that fiddling around dipping here and there ...

So do you nottand to use the opaques???? I dont really work with sheers anymore as the opaque gives so much coverage ...

Should I give the sheers a go do you think if the opaques are dull???

You could just use clear with the tip and use opaque for zones 2 & 3 or do a custom colour blend for zones 2&3 (do you do CCB?) this gives a more natural look to the nailplate while hiding imperfections. x

Hi Tracey,

How's you? I normally mix the glitter with the clear powder half and half to get an opaque glitter. Apply as normal but slightly thinner on the tip as you will need to cap the glitter in clear to stop it filing away and being rough to the touch.

It shouldn't really matter whether you use opaque or sheer pink just try not to pull it over.

I also do all the glitter tips first on one hand and then make sure all the glitter is flushed out of the brush and change my liquid before doing the pink otherwise you will get the odd annoying sparkle in the pink! Then do the same again for the other hand.

If you use the cnd shimmers powders you don't need to cap the tip as they are fine enough.

Give me a call if you have any trouble

Lovely thanks ....

Cheers caroline, yup all is good with me .... keep your phone to hand as you might just be getting a call from me later!!!!!!!

xx

Another way to use your opaques hun would be to do a reverse application of zones 2 and 3, that way you wont pull any at all over your glitter. Still cap with clear. I also mix my glitter with clear powder about a 1:3 ratio. I use young nails glitters they are fab.

I have been mixing the glitter 1 part to 3 parts clear then applying it in the same way as the whites, I only do a thin layer then put clear over the top. I use the sheer pink. I find glitter tips so much more easier than whites, don't know why, but I'm still very new to this. You can get your glitter from anywhere, craft - art shops etc. I got 10 little pots for £13.00 at olyimpia.
