ok im new to spray tanning but after gathering loads of family and freinds to practice on im pleased its going quite well! Only issue im having MAJOR probs with is hands and feet, mostly feet. Im using barrier cream, and hands are getting better, im only lightly misting near hands and feet but they are still coming out bright orange really bad! If i decide to do this as a business (at the moment its really knocking my confidence) i cannot have this happening to clients. any advice is much appreciated x

ok so your worrying about your clients tan results,
have you taken the training and gained the insurance you have been advised to get in one of your previous threads,
we don't give out professional advise to people that do treatments as a hobby,
it would not be professional of us to do so.

I am not worrying about my clients results as i wont be spraying clients until im fully trained and over the teething problems (Which im sure everyone has?) I am worried about how my family and freinds feet have come out. Yes I am booked onto a sienna x training course. I asked on here as everyone seemed very helpful and everyone has to start somewhere. It is not a hobby, i would love to start my own mobile business when I am trained and have Insurance. I will not ask any more advice until im trained.

I think sometimes it can be off putting to ask advice on this site, yes we don't want to give advice to people who are not going to bother training but for gods sake who do some people think they are ' Geek Police'!

In answer to your problems im not sure why the hands are taking so much if your only light misting maybe hold the gun further away, with the feet i don't spray as i find all the spray falls onto them anyway so give that a try see if that any better.

Good luck x

Hey Lou,
forgive me but im confused here......how do you get orange hands and feet if your using a barrier cream???
How much solution are you using?
When you say orange hands and feet do you mean the soles of the feet and palms of the hands or the top sides?

You mention you may "decide to do this as a business" but then confirm your booked on a training course....which really is the best way round of doing things.

Training will prove to be invaluable however during the early days you will forget things and also need some support so I guess that's the best time to ask for it...do your training and then ask for help if you need it.

Good luck on your training and hopefully all your questions/problems will be answered...if not were here waiting for you

hi collin,

i said may decide because i guess some people even after training may still not get the hang of it, im doing to to my training either way and will see how i go from there. yes even with a clean towel and barrier cream still getting orange soles and on top and sides of feet. maybe i still have my gun up to high and to much is coming out and settling on the towel, i will ask all this when training or at least learn where im going wrong. Im using about 50mls of solution which i didnt think was to bad for a beginner? thank you for taking the time to reply x

Yikes...barrier cream and towels and still orange bits hey

How much solution are you using?

Try pulling the gun away as you stroke down the legs at about the shin...same on the arms..start to pull away half way down the fore arm.

If your using more than 50ml TURN THAT DIAL DOWN

I use sticky feet and never had any orange feet yet :)
Try spraying without going over the feet at all. Sometimes the overspray from the legs is enough to cover the feet.
50ml is fine. I do lots and lots of tans and i use between 40-50 ml.

You will have difficulties if you haven't been trained. Get the proper training and i'm sure you will be fine. There are certain techniques to doing things that you will learn in your training. What solution are you using? x

Hey sweetie, I all ways get my clients to put their hands in a claw ( as if they are holding a small ball in each hand) as their fingers aren't then on show. I get them to hold that position even when I'm spraying the whole of their front body and face as I dont want any over spray to settle on their fingers. I also do a quick spray on the hands and feet. I spray from top of arm to bottom of hand pulling my gun away as I get to the hands.

HTH

If I could just address the "Geek Police" comment.

Imagine the scenario - person comes on here having bought some piece of kit in Argos or from Ebay and asks questions similar to this one, hypothetically of course!

Some response is please get some training. The poster then says she will possibly get training after ironing out these problems - surely that is what training is about.

The Salon Geek is a professional forum for professionals (having done or about to do training) to gain help and support from other professionals. It is not for consumers to come on and get taught to use their equipment and products which they have bought from non professional outlets.

If you are happy to teach consumers to take away your business, possibly, or to bring down the professional ethics of the industry then so be it but please do not criticise those professionals who wish to keep the profession, professional!

This is in no way aimed at the thread starter so please dont think it is, but I used this opportunity to reiterate the professional aspect of Salon Geek and to hopefully stop the constant banding about of words like Geek Police and similar!

Phew, glad I got that off my chest - now back to the thread.

Thanks Fiona it is nice to know that experienced true professionals understand how and why i answered as i did,
and you put it so much nicer than i would have done if i had bothered to reply to the remark aimed at me,

Lou0504 once you have been trained feel free to come on here with as many questions as you like,
and you find that i will be one of the geeks that will give you lots of helpful advise.

Hello

I am very aware i have to do my training before i decide anything but i didnt go into this blindfolded, i did weeks of research and sought advice from my own beautician and a very helpful trainer , i wanted to have a go on family and friends which im sure alot of people are keen to do at 1st,until i got the cash together for my training, unfortunatly its been hard as my other half has just been made redundant and i am trying not to lewt this get in my way of fulfilling my dream of jopining the world of beauty, I wasnt aware that this site was purely for professionals, other wise i would not have asked questions or joined until i was trained so for that im sorry. I just felt a little bit put out by certain replys and the way they were worded, i just want some advice to help me put more until ive done my training. Im having an operation thursday so am unable to to my training until the following week, and the lady has been lovely, i told her i was trying on family if anything to better my confidence until my training. And im pleased to say I have cracked my teething problems and its going great. I am aware that other than technique, i will learn about health and saftey etc and will gain a certificate for insurance. Im really looking foward to it and wont be seeking anymore help from here until im trained. Some people explained it well to me and said in a friendly way, which is fine, and i apologise for seeking advice before im trained. Thanks for taking the time to answer and read my thread x

Don't let some people put you off, they give good advice but unfortunately word it a bit wrong.
I think it's good that you're practising before you've even trained as it comes across like you are very determined about this as your profession.
Personally I don't see that there's anything wrong with you asking for advice now? You're going to be qualified soon any way!

Except what if the OP is practising the wrong technique? Then she will need to unlearn what she has taught herself and re-learn the correct way...... I agree it does show a determined attitude, but personally I agree with the 'wait til you're trained' sentiment.

Also, there's nothing wrong with asking questions but as an un-trained person they shouldn't be suprised by people being guarded with their information IMO.

Yes but in all fairness, I'm sure she knows it'll be a different technique, she's getting some practise so she's got some sort of an idea of what it's like before she spends the money. Think about it logically
