Having trouble with Minx

Hi all,

I am having trouble with Minx's peeling back on my fingernails. What am I doing wrong? How do I know if I am filing the ends right? Any suggestion? I am using the Minx light....also how much time do you spend under the light working with Minx's. Is it possible I am heating them up to much?

How long have they lasted for you on fingernails?

Hi there, are you perhaps stretching them too much when applying? You just need a gentle tautness. It shouldn't matter how long you have the minx under heat to get it to go where you want it to go. Also you need to really let the minx really cool down before you file. Then put the minx back under the heat so you can smooth it out.

One of my clients went for 4 weeks with minx on her pinkies over enhancements, she had gold on them to compliment her red and gold Christmas nails.

This is something I have struggled with too, and one of the lovely ladies at Minx suggested that I run my file more parallel to the nail, towards my wrist when I file the free edge. So far so good

You're not charging for a service that doesn't last long ... you're charging for a service that lasts for weeks if done correctly. If you are not competent yet at applying Minx then maybe you shouldn't be charging anything yet.

Have you watched the training video? www.minxnails.com/training.asp

Watch and learn and take it all in. Notice how it is done and notice what is said. It really is not difficult to apply Minx nail armour. I honestly can't see how any nail tech can have real problems with it once they have watched the training video.

There is no need to 'cap' Minx or use any type of top coat ... that is one of the beauties of using them.

Most of my clients Minxed fingernails are lasting a maximum of 2 weeks, toes 6 weeks, they look a bit shabby but still intact! I know I am doing everything I should but can't get the nails to last any longer than 2 weeks :cry:

My minx last 3 weeks on my nails and then I'm a bit tired of them and want a change.

After the second week, I file down to tidy up the free edge and make them look like new again. :green:

I wouldn't suggest to a client they would last perfectly for more than than 2 weeks because of what clients put them through.

They are what they are after all and if you don't give them some protection (rubber gloves etc) of course they will possibly get a bit shabby after two weeks!

They will last 6 weeks on toes because toes are protected. Protect your fingers and they will last a long time as well ... you can't have it both ways.

Thanks Geeg. I do tell clients not to expect them to last any longer than 2 weeks, I also find they seem to last longer on shorter nails??
I also find when I have wore them myself if I need to itch I use the heel of my hand rather than the tips of my fingers!! If I dont it seems to make the Minx peel at the free edge.Not that I itch a lot... I don't have scabies or anything lol x

I also have had trouble with my minx.. I seem to be between sizes.. my nails are smaller at the bottle and a touch wider at the free edge and I can't seem to cover the side walls.. if i fit them to the side walls they are so big at the cuticle they are wrong... lol

what can i do to fix this?...

This is a good question and I have some nails the same.

My answer is that I don't actually take the Minx all the way to the side walls on any of my nails ... AND I don't worry about it because the ILLUSION makes my nails look even sleeker. For the same reason I do not polish most nails all the way to the side walls or eponychium either.

Decoration is all about illusion. NO ONE but YOU looks at your nails critically or so closely as you do. You can change the shape of your lips with colour ... your eyes ... the shape of your nose with makeup ... it is ALL illusion.

Like anything else, I find Minx last longer too, when they do not touch the sidewalls or eponychium.

Shorter nails get less wear and tear at the free edge ... it is all logical if you think about it.

Ok well that is a good point.. but it was a fair amount of nail at the side... maybe i have not bought my sidewalls in enough in teh first place...
I didn't want to keep going as it was getting more and more out of shape the more fingers i did... i only got 3 done and they didnt look very good so i threw a tanti and peeled them off..... aparantly my family said it was fun to watch me loose my temper!

Next time just leave them on and I bet you no one will notice.

If you think there is too much free margin at the sides, then use a bigger Minx and trim with scissors.

You will get more used to the sizing as you go along (like with most things). Remember how long it used to take to size your tips correctly???
Can you Remember, Mel??? Now you just look at the nail and you KNOW which is the correct size while hardly having to think about it at all. The same will happen with Minx and PopIts when you have used them more frequently!

This is true... I would like to have another go at it.. when i dont have a 2year old and an 8 year old hovering over me trying to get a piece of the action.. my eldest has a business already. she makes ear rings and sells massages by the min!.... she has asked me to teach her to do nails and LOVES hers being done... she is dying to be minx'd...lol

trim them and try again.... I only have 2 packs my love so i need to go slow!!!! lol
