:irked:I don't know for sure if that's what it was but it did smell fishy when soaked off and took on the texture of treacle, making it difficult to scrape off.
How do you deal with these clients? THere are so many NSS round here I'm starting to get an influx of people wanting 'infills' as they call them and I don't know whether it's better to soak off or rebalance as I rebalanced with CND pure pink last week and a week later she was back wanting a soak off as they had all lifted really badly, esp. at the sidewalls.
I explained it may be a compatibiity issue combined with a lack of cuticle oil (I did sell her some but she left it on reception by mistake and didn't come back for it) but I was just so unsure. She had signed a disclaimer before I rebalanced so I didn't feel I should offer a refund.
When the nails were off the beds were thinned slightly- her free edge was a bit weak and I KNOW it won't grow to any sort of length until the damage has grown out but there was no pain and no rings of fire-she admitted they used a drill though.
I assumed it was better to rebalance until the MMA has grown out to protect the damaged nails, but I don't understand what would have caused such lifting-it was the worst I'd ever seen on any set of nails. In hindsight I should have soaked off to start with as it may have saved my reputation (although the client didn't complain, it looked really bad that she came into the salon to show me and get me to sort them out in forn of a load of waiting clients!)
What do you all do-I've got a bit of a headache after thinking over and over and wondering if it's acceptable to point blank refuse to touch another tech's work? Cos that's how I feel at the moment:cry:.

In my experience of re-basing a set of nails that most likely are an MMA acrylic is that they seem to lift easier then when I have used my own product from the beginning. It could make since that a nail bed becomes used to that type of product and the harshness of the chemicals that when you put an approved product over it it wont adhere as well. I used to never re-base a client that I didn't know what the product was because I knew it would not be the quality that I could produce. Although now I have the same concern that most likely the nail is more damaged and removing the product and adding my own could lessen the strength. In the past after a couple re-bases the lifting has subsided. I always tell clients that because I am most likely using a different product than what is on their nails now I can't guarantee these nail until most of the product has grown out. Hope that helps :smack:

I wouldn't advise infilling MMA nails with EMA. The MMA is so rigid and the EMA is much more flexible. The old overlay will just pull the infilled area away.

It can be quite hard convincing a client addicted to MMA nails to have them removed and replaced with EMA nails. They usually are happy with the compromise of wrecked nails vs tough hooves than never break. (and are cheaper)

Sticking with a 'rule' that you never mix unknown products is the easiest answer while you try to educate them in the benefits of EMA

Thanks for that, I think this is what happened in this case. Anyhow, they are now completeley removed so hopefully could convince her to have a nice new full set of EMA!
