Hi folks - I am a beauty/comp therapist, and very painfully shut my thumb in a car door just before Christmas.

The thumb nail was scythed pretty much straight through at an angle across the nail. The traumatised area is now pretty much dead, and has detached from the nail bed.

the problem now is that it is starting to lift completely away from the side wall of the nail. Can anyone advise me on the best way to deal with this e.g. taping it or cutting it back perhaps, so as I can work comfortably without damaging the new nail?

Sorry if this sounds gross everyone!

Any advice appreciated...jtp x

Even if you clip it down, it's still going to get caught in things and will be very annoying.

If it was me, I would overlay it with either gel or L&P .. this would leave it completely smooth and would allow it to grow out without any further damage.

Can't really advise hun other than to say be sure to have the thumb xrayed as well. Our friend did exactly the same after we held a 40th for him in January, woke up the following day in agony with a huge chunk of his thumb nails bashed in. 3 weeks later, xrays showed he had actually broken it in 2 places!

Hope you get sorted enough to have a pain free comp xxx
