I have had a client who has had Brisa on for the last year and a half with no problems well up until the last 3 visits!

The same two nails are breaking left hand middle and index just at the tip the gel on the nail plate is fine.
This client is my mum and is good with her nails she tells me if its something she has done so am puzzled.

Nothing I have done is different at all the prep and application hasn't changed she isn't complaining but her first one broke the day after I did them this is so frustrating.

Has anyone had a similar thing happen and if so any ideas why?
What do you think I could do to stop this happening?

Is your lamp curing your gel? Is it needing new bulbs? I know it is just two nails breaking, but maybe your mum is hardest on these and that is why they are breaking.

Has your mum taken up a new hobby? Bought a new piece of furniture/electrical appliance that she needs to use these fingers to operate? Carrying bags of Christmas shopping in her left hand?

Is your application thinner than you previously have done, maybe with becoming more expert in the system you are going thinner without realising? Or maybe the apex isn't in the same place as you previously did it?

Just some thoughts........

are all her other nails now a NNO...? and the broken ones tips...?

i ask because i find that when people are at NNO stage and break one resulting in a tip being used i noticed the same thing happening sometimes. The NNO has no join...its a whole nail and i find stronger than a tip with a join....where ever there is a join there is a weakness....maybe you need to build these tipped nails up more to compensate.

Thanks Angie the rest of her nails are all NNO she never ever has problems with then lifting is mininal.
I have tried sculpting a few times but they snap to. I will have to try applying a little thicker next time.

I think Angie's on the right path here...when you tip or sculpt it will never be as strong as the nno, the nno has the full nailplate to adhere to which gives it more strength.

If the nails have broken quite far down (for whatever reason) they will need to be made stronger than the others until the nailplate has grown longer.

Try to build your apex a bit more, just where the natural nail is meeting tip or sculpt and slightly back and forward of this weak point.

You will have been used to doing all 10 nails on this client a certain way and are probably building your apex very thinly as this is what you always did with no problems?

I had same problem with a Brisa client on an index finger on her right hand. The nail was naturally thinner than others for some reason. Gel was lifting in 2-3 days and popping off completely.

I decided to apply thin l&P underlay and then carried on with gel.
