Hi everyone,
I have a client coming in for a manicure tomorrow and she was asking me about her nails, firstly they have started coming away from the skin lower down the nail on a few of them and also they have started to change colour about halfway up, they are really light pink until about half way then they get darker pink (the more normal pink) I hope this makes sense!
Has anyone seen this before or could give me some advise on how to approach the manicure? I haven't had much experience with nail problems like this!

Oh i should also mention my client is going through 'the change' i thought maybe this could be something to do with her hormones??

Thanks geeks!

Has your client ever had nail enhancements on?

Because this sounds like a classic case of overfiling or picking them off

The nails have become weak/thin and as they grow they are just splitting at the sidewalls..also the two pinks she see's is another issue do to the overfiling/picking/thinning of the natural nail

Not saying this is the case but it's the first thing that came to my mind

no i don't think so, she definitely hasn't had enhancements on before but i'm not sure about over filing, i'll ask her about that when she comes in, it's only a recent thing, she wanted to have enhancements as it's making her nails look untidy but i advised against enhancements on these nails, so we are going for a manicure instead!

It is onycholysis which can be caused by many more things than incorrect removal of enhancements or filing damage. Often people in ill health show it in the form of onycholysis.

You should advise her to show this to a doctor and have a heath check .. low immunity etc. The change does affect the body of course, but it could be another condition/s .. best to have a health check .. it is an indication of poor health.

Oh thanks gigi! I will advise her!
