sorry if this is a long one

right my own nails have been a problem for ages now, and after wearing enhancements for few weeks during my foundation course, i soaked a set off ready to try poppits two weeks ago, and cried my natural nails were destroyed looked red and sore (they wernt) and had not brought a file anywhere near the nat nail so didnt understand why they were like this, decided its deffo the acteone (i did suspect this a while ago) and i had no product remover left so had to use it, anyway, left them for 2 weeks smothered in solar oil few times a day seemed better, decided to overlay on friday very short and no blending or anything, and would wear enamel over them, did them and felt much better , cos they felt protected iykwim, anyway they are not even at the tips of my fingers, but still looked heaps better than nat nails,

had shower this morning, decided to change my enamel (did it in a rush fri night) so takes polish off and OMG massive white patches on nails, and on two there seemed to be water underneath!!!! So i thought i had pocket lifting?

but now ive studied them hard, it does not look like its between nail and enhancement, it looks like its under natural nail??

anyhow ive read threads on here and cannot find anything similar, so i soaked off my little finger (but to be honest im loathe to soak them off because i know they will be so weak and destroyed because the remover almost disintergrates them) and the patch is still there, its on my natural nail, so it wasnt pocket lifting, but no idea what it is, and dont know whether its safer to leave them on and keep checking for greenies (incase there is lifting) or soak them off and risk the state of my nails underneath

anyone got any idea please

ive took a picture, but its on phone so not too clear, sorry

ps, after 20 mins these patches look less white, as if they are fading? the one on the natursl nail ive soaked off is no longer bright white but a faded pale patch now (if that makes sense) so think ill leave them on for now and see what replies i get

x

Hi hun

I wouldnt like to tell you what it is, thats a doctors job, but I can tell you that I have a fungal infection in one of my toenails at the moment which looks very similar to what you have shown in that picture.

It might not be, but I would say go and see the doctor. He can tell you what it is and give you any medication you need to resolve it. If it is a fungal infection you might get a paint which you need to paint on twice a week until it grows out.

If you are using acetone designed to be used on nails then I doubt very much that it is doing the damage. According to Doug Schoon acetone is very safe if used correctly!

If it is not pocket lifting then it looks to me like a slight derailing of the nail plate from the nail bed. This can be caused by excessive shrinkage of product, having the nails too long, natural nails being very weak (which I can see from your pic that your nails are VERY damaged!), product too thick (again causing excess shrinkage).

Either remove product and be very careful with your nails, keeping them very short and lashings of solar oil ... or remove and do the same. They should fully reattach in a few days.

would a fungal infection suddenly appear on a nail within one day then do you think? cos there was nothing like this on the nails friday night and on nearly every single one of them, (theres only 2 nails i cant see it on) and as i said it now seems to be fading

ive had a fungal toenail infection and it looked different to this

anyway thanks for help hun, if no-one can shed any light i'll visit doctors on thursday, but surely he'll ask me to take the other nails off and come back? ive got to say last time in went about my nails he was crap, it was a geek on here that told me it was onycholyosis, then when i went back and told him he looked it up, said 'oh your right' and sent me for blood tests to see what was causing it , so i must admit i dont have any faith in my GP lol

right i'll remove them and see how they go, think i'm gonna give up with the nails, if i cannot wear them myself (everytime i wear them something happens to my own nails, think im allergic to product then) and due to medical reasons my own nails will not grow and are a constant source or shame for me, then how can i be a successful nail tech, when all i get is comments about the state of my own nails? oh well off to tescos for a application form i suppose lol

thanks girls for your help and advice xxx

I doubt very much if it is fungal TBH. As I say it looks like it's derailing ... which is the stage before onycholysis. Your nails are damaged and need you to take a course of action that isn't fuelled by panic! If it were me I would keep the product on as it protects them, keep them very short, lashings of solar oil, and wait for the damage to grow out when it will all settle down.

If you ever want to see someone about nails then forget doctors, go to a podiatrist ... they are the nail disease and problem specialists!

everytime i wear them something happens to my own nails, think im allergic to product then

If you were allergic to the product then you would get huge flare ups on your skin. It may be that l&p is not suited to you. Wraps could possibly be a better option for you. However I often find when I apply a full set I get a little bit of derailing and it settles down after a few days. Why not just try a thin overlay, or sculpt a set as this requires very little filing, it is possibly the downward pressure of the filing that is aggravating this. (and if you are like me you tend to be less gentle when doing your own nails!!!)

thats what they were Sass, a very thin overlay, so i hardly used the file at all, a quick swipe to shape the sides and i was using the buffer to give them a nice shine, to enable me to paint them better,

but i deffo like the idea of seeing a podiatrist

must add my natural nail, is perfectly normal now, (1 hour later)no patch left on it at all now? and the patched under my overlays are much less proncounced now, im one very confused geek

xx

My suggestion would be, take the best pics you can of all your nails, and then PM Geeg to see if she would be able to help you out!

Thing is Nicky, you have had probs with your nat nails for ages now and they dont seem to be getting any better. Myself I would now be totally reluctant to put anything at all on them other than solar oil, and toughen up!?!

I can imagine how sore they are for you aswell hun!

:hug:xxxx

weird thing they are not sore now, they just look awful,

i only put stuff on them because i had to for my foundation course and they seemed fine , so thought i'd cracked it lol

anway , i wanted them to look nicer as i had new clients this week, so overlayed them really sort, but hey ho, now they are gonna look worse pmsl

so its solar oil only for me from now on, will see if i can get some toughen up on wednesday when i go for my last day, (will nail envy do for the meantime?)

anyway thanks for all your help guys, gonna go see a specialist like sass suggested as i really think someone needs to see it to know what it is, i cannot take good pictures (no matter how hard i try they are not clear enough)

thanks again , gonna go feel sorry for myself now

Could it be a case of pseudo leukonichia? sp

I've been trying to find the article about it on here but I can't find it!

Have a look at this thread I started a while back, may give you some more ideas Nail Disorder

This particular one turned out to be pseudo leukonychia.

thanks phoebe, it does sound just like that, especially as the natural nail has now turned pink again and is completly normal, and even the ones with overlays on are starting to look less white (although still weird looking)

am just wondering if i leave them on and keep applying solar oil, will this replace the lost oil and moisture quick enough, or would i be better removing them (facing the consequences of another soak off) and letting the solar oil works its wonders?

feel better now there looks like a reason for it, but still unsure what to do lol

thanks again for all your help xxx

this morning half of the white patches have faded even more, theres some that have gone completley, spent all day yesterday coating them with solar oil, so think its deffo pseudo leukonychia (sp) as the patches are dissapearing when re-hydrated , so gonna leave these last few short overlays on and keep on with the solar oil for next two days, and show my educator on wednesday

wonder if its cos my own nails are weak and thin anyway and not particularly oily and i use primer then product (as show on course) but maybe i just dont need the primer and its drying my nails far too much?

thanks again for advice guys
