HI everybiody, i am more of a skin geek, so this nail business is new to me , i am opening my own salon (i hope!) and will be recruiting a nail technician, am looking for a high rise nail bar, with those high stool, i know hey arent the most confortable etc but it fits with the image of the salon all the more
ppl are saying to get it custom made, is there an easier solution,
ant any any advice wou;d be great please
thanks geekies

Hi Jenn!

Glad to hear the plans are coming along! :)

I have to admit I'd be a bit nervous working on a stool - yes, they look great, but because we do so much sitting, proper ergonomics are really important. If your techs (and your clients!) aren't comfortable, they'll walk and find somewhere else.

I'm really short, and have a hard time on a high stool for any length of time - I can't imagine working on one as my back would be killing me (I have one mobile client who has a breakfast bar, but after one session of trying to work off it, I had to resort to bringing my portable nail table because I couldn't get comfortable on the tall chairs).

Sorry - just one opinion!

Still, I would seek out a designer and see if you can come up with a custom, stylish, and comfortable design for your salon. If your staff are happy, they'll stay with you!

Good luck :)

dawn , hi yes am trying to build all my research, getting there slowly but durely, this will sound like pure ignorance, what kind of designer do you mean, who wuld design and be able to build such a athing????

I also think the high rise bar would look really cool, but i would hate hate hate to work at one... when im at home i do my own nails at my bar and by the time im done my body feels like its been hit by a bus! if you absolutely will not budge on the idea i would make sure you get really comfy cushioned chairs (also make sure they swivel!) and consider installing a foot rest into the base of the bar so legs arent dangling! you'll also want to consider the fact that some of your clients might not be able to have their nails done at a tall bar, think of clients in wheelchairs, eldery, or overweight. sometimes function just HAS to outweigh design.

I honestly think you need to look at stylish comfort instead. I am disabled and can not sit at all for long on a hard chair, NO way Id be able to sit on a stool all day and work! Think of your employies and clients comfort first, isnt a beauty treatment of any kind ment to be relaxing and enjoyable? And I must agree with Yeahyeah, surely you have to consider every type of client and their comfort wheelchairs, elderly and overweight. GL with everything and I hope it work out well for you.

Hiya Jen

I agree with the others and would cry if I had to work at one of those stations.

I had mine custom made and it's fab... I did kinda rob the idea from a table I loved but couldn't afford as it was about €1,200.00 (and that was 9 years ago)

So I took a pic of it and went to a woodwork place where they make kitchen units and stuff and they made a very similar one for €500.00, so I bought two :)

Then I went to a glass place and got them to make the glass for the top of it (that was €30)

So really I just cut out the middle man

Hope you find something really nice (and comfy) for your new salon

Hi I have worked at a rised desk, we were able to stand up to do the nails if we wanted to, it was that high. We used some fab chairs adjustable i height, with build in foot rests, so I couldn't feel the difference from a normal one. There was no ergonomical problems as the table itself was designed great. It was kind of two tables on top of eachother if that makes sense..

It was custom made, but it doesn't have to be expensive, the design was simple, almost just a regularly nail-table with extra long legs, filled with sand to keep them steady. The client would sit a bit higher and rest their arms on the upper table and we would work and support on the lower one..

So please do buy great chairs, but then the hight shouldn't be a problem...

(I hope this makes sense and that I understood the topic well enough, otherwise I'm sorry)

ok wow....
so the overall feeling is a no go for high rise nail bars....ok i will take it all on board, i suppose because my salon is based over three floors and the ost natural light is on the basement i woulnt be amazingly equipped to take in wheelchair clients too easily, am still in talks with the estate agent so this is a huge issue at present, so it is definitely sommit i have to look inot....
if i do go ahead with it i will defiitely be looking for foot rests, high rise back chairs and definitely cushioned..

nolimitnails, do u know where that two tirered nail bar was made, or came about, u say it was ergonomicaly designed so ..any ideas??

An*gel i love the idea u just gave me , find a design that i like, picture it, take to a cabinetmaker, glass top, thank u
thanks al, where di u get the chairs for it then???- is it a reguar height manicure table

Am sure you will get exactly what your looking for plus the comfort to! :)

i hope so nickie, think have to go gte it made by the sounds of it, ....

It was made here in Denmark:), but It was designed so when the client was resting her underarms on the upper tabletop, the hands would be hanging down, we had a table underneath, this was shaped like half a peanut (closest thing I can think of) and the top table would only be half the size of the one we were sitting at, so we could rest our arm on the lower tabletop and grab clients hands.

Oh I'm so frustrated right now as I'm lacking words to properly explain this. :irked:

The chairs was easily height adjustable so we could adjust to our own/clients height.

I hope I made just a little sense...

your english is brill , thank you, sorry to annoy again, you dont know the name of where it was made, or a pic of the table itself, it sounds pretty unique would love to visulaise it????

Hi Jenn

If your salon is over three floors, maybe you can reserve a space or two on the ground floor that would be accessible for wheelchair users or people with other mobility issues (case in point, I have several clients that use walkers and can't manage stairs, but still want their nails and waxing done).

You could use a standard desk in those areas, and a "high rise" desk in other areas (providing you can make a comfortable one!). That way, your clients will have a choice and you can still go for the style you want.

You must be so excited! I would love to set up my own salon from scratch!

Best of luck with your plans!

we have two high rise nail tables with stools and I HATE them. they are being binned as soon as possible.

I am only 5 4 and I find myself having to sit on the stool and put one leg on the floor to steady myself. the table is too narrow and the clients keep spinning on their stools........

My business partner is taller 5 7 , and she doesnt have to steady herself with one leg out on the floor.

Its driving me mad and and cant wait to have normal tables again. roll on new financial year!

xxxxxx

Ditto what everyone says about your back when working.

however, if it's what you really want. Why not look at kitchen breakfast bars. They will be a lot cheaper and any reasonable joiner would be able to sort you something really nice out. You would also be able to get some very cheap, matching 'kitchen cupboards' lol for storage.

Nope sorry, she had them made herself with help from different places, and I haven't got any pics:irked:

I have seen a nailtable somewhere that was build slightly the same way, just didn't have the peanutshape... But I can't remember who had it.

I'm so sorry I don't have any pics or anything:cry: I hope you can imagine something from my description:hug:
