Hi All,

After some advice please,

I am really interested in learning Hot Stone Massage, but would like some recommendations on which company are best to train with.

Are there many different techniques to Hot Stone Massage or does every company tech more or less the same?

Who did you train with?

How many stones is used in each body massage?

Thank you in advance

Love Emma x:hug:x

Hi Emma

I trained with the international dermal institute. You don't need to be an account holder to do training at the institute. The lady who trains you there is training by the lady who first brought the idea over here. It is a two day course and you get and give a treatment both days. The first day you are taught the front of the body and what stones are for what, the second day you get taught the back and go through the whole routine. I have a kit of 52 hot stones and 24 cold stones and use most of the hot stones in every massage. I loved and had a great time.:)I think if I remember rightly it cost me about £190 for the two days.
If you would like any more info just let me know

Have you got a link? Is it Jane Scrivener that does the course?

I think it depends upon the type of hot stone massage you want to offer as to where you go for training. I personally find a normal deep tissue massage using hot stones in the same manner one would use any other massage tool, with the added bonus of heat, is far more enjoyable than the LaStone method, although the latter has some great relaxation techniques. I suspect most, like me, use a mixture of techniques as very few massage therapists like to adhere to routines!

Yes it is Jane Scrivner and it's called Simply Stones. It's fantastic value for the length of the course and the calibre of the trainer.

thanks, I've had a reply and she doesn't do hot stone training anymore she is concentrating on other things so its one of her team that does the hot stone.

Thanks for your replies :)

I am not too sure what type of hot stone massage I want to offer, as I dont know what types there are, would it be a good idea to do a couple courses and use some techniques from both?

What are the names of the different hot stone massages and how are they different from each other?
I have heard of Lastone massage but dont know too much about it?

Well some seem to be more about energies, chakras & so forth, whilst others take a more remedial approach, using the heat of the stones as a means of releasing muscular tension, and others combine the approach. I had a LaStone one once that seemed to be all wafting incense, superficial stroking, tapping stones & waving hands over me to open & close my energies...I was bored rigid & didn't enjoy it. On the other hand I had hot stone massage by a friend who trained in Brighton & it was like a good deep tissue massage but with the use of hot stones & some stone placement. Personally I preferred the latter as I'm not a fan of wafting strokey massage & not that into 'energies' in my massage, I much prefer deep tissue, which is also the way I use the stones. A lot of it comes down to the type of massage that you want to offer & that your clients go for.

I trained in Hot stone massage ages ago and also use of cold marine stones on the face. I use the stones as an extention of my hands, so use the stones to perform effleurage, petrissage, pressures and tapping. I also do stone placements, cocooning and give the clients stones to hold.

La stone therapy is less open to your own interpretation, its a set sequence where you open up the energy, use a series of hot and cold stones and then colse the energy.

I quite like wafting of energies and such like so thought doing the training with Jane or La stone would be good too. Trouble is they take 3 days to train you, and i ain't got 3 days.

I trained with Jane quite recently so she must have very recently given up.
