Hello everyone,

I'm new here and just wanted some opinions and thoughts.....

How did you feel about your make up course?
Did you do it with your beauty course or was it private?

I done it with my beauty course and i found they only really taught you the basics. I would really like to learn different techniques and eyeshadow looks but when i look at courses they all seem to teach you the same things.

Have you found certain books or websites/magazines have taught you far more than the courses?

If so could you share with us all what your favourite books or websites are as i'm sure some other people are feeling like this too and don't want to spend a lot of money on other courses that are teaching things you already know.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and reply.

Hiya,
I did my make up as part of my NVQ level 2 and yes it was pretty basic. It gives you an understanding into how to use make up and a few different looks but I personally think make up is very specialised and something you have to really work at.

I bought several books and watched lots and lots of vids.Youtube have plenty of make up tutorials..Type in 'Urban Decay book of Shadows 2', and there are stacks of very good eye make up tutorials

Make up is an art, blending and learning how to create different looks takes lots of practice.I love make up and practiced as much as I could.Dont be afraid to play around.I have loads of make up and particularly love Urban Decay as they have so many bright vibrant colours that create dramatic looks.

Having a good set of brushes and learning what they are for is essential,it really makes a difference and helps to achieve that professional look.

Thanks for the reply, what would be your favourite books? what did you find was the most helpful?

if the beauty therapy course only really touches on make up you could try a sole make up course if its what your interested in? the college i am at do HNC fashion make up HND make up artistry and VTCT theatrical and media make up, which i would imagine would cover more than 1-2 day make up courses etc

I bought a few and my fav is Makeup artistry, can't remember who it's by but I love it, lots of different looks, how to shade and shape the face, very clear and gives a good run down on the basic tools you 'need' rather then all the stuff you would like.
I got it from Amazon and I really rate it, there are a few others that are on my wish list and I just read the star rateings to find which ones had been bought by makeup artists and what they thought of them.
Hope this helps you

Ok, will check out those books.

No one else got anything to share on make up?

Bobbi Brown's book is very good, however nothing beats trial and error and practice!
