Hi guys

I have a waxing client who is willing to allow me to practise my L&P on her. But she had nss nails on which have trashed her nails. Her nails are paper thin and have lots of layers missing, if that makes sense.
Can i still apply acylic, if so how do i prepare the nail as i'm worried because of the state of her nails, especially when i need to rough the nail plate. I trained in CND

Thankyou

I used to rip my acrylic off in high school just to put on fresh acrylic. There were times my nails were so thin and painful that putting the acrylic on was the only thing that made my fingers usable.

That said, I wouldn't think that roughing up the nails was really required for acrylic...I thought good prep and gentle "etching" was all that was required... (I just buffed the nail with a buffer...) In high school I never roughed up my nails and the acrylic stayed...and I was using stuff I could get from Sally's. lol

Sorry if this isn't helpful.

I gather she is coming to you with no enhancements on?
I'm shuddering at the thought, because I know she probebly bit them of, which only increased the damage done by the e-file.
What you should do is get a wheat bag, warm it in the microwave, then slather her nails in solar oil, put some more onto some cotton pads, wrap each finger and oil filled pad in tinfoil, wrap the warm wheat bag around her hands and let them have a good 10 minute soak 20 if she will sit there. She should then go home with the solar oil, put it on morning and night and come back to you a week later. At that point she should have a full solar manicure. Solar butter the lot. Keep the free edge of her nails short, they are going to catch and tear on every little thing until they grow out. Another thing she can do is buy some solar butter from you, if she were to give her hands a good coating with it and then put her washing up gloves on, the warmth from the water acting with the gloves on the solar butter will really help her hands and nails.
That's what she and you should do, you should also take photo's at every treatment, so she can see the improvment and it's a great advert for you.
However my experience is, most clients don't have the patience for this, hate having short stubby nails and will go back to the nss right up to the point where they rip their nail out of the bed.
So what you can do;
Very careful prep, by that I mean gentle push back with your cuticle pusher, remove shine, well with out seeing the nails.... using your koala file you want to only use the file in the direction of growth. Dehydrate etc.
The nails themselves have got to be short, nice thin application, treat her nails the way you would a nail biter, bit of art so she can't see the damage and daily solar oil. If you can, see her every 10 days so you can make sure the enhancements are not flexing where the thin nail ends and the healthy new nail starts.
Good luck hun. Please please try and talk her into the first choice:hug:

Firstly CND do not teach anyone ever to 'rough up the nail plate'.

With normal nails, a gentle exfoliation of the surface of the nail to remove shine is all that is needed and ... this is the most important thing when prepping nails in the condition you describe ...

if there is no surface shine then there is nothing to remove so DON'T! Just ScrubFresh the surface thoroughly once or even twice getting around all the nail folds, wait for it to dry completely and then apply a nice thin layer of CND Radical or Retention+ or Moxie .. whichever system you use.

Hi

Thanks for the replys and help.
So sorry i really didn't mean to offend anyone. I did mean etching not roughing. It was late, i knew what i meant but typed the wrong word. (no idea why, lol). Maybe because my client kept say 'roughing' whilst she was telling me how the nails were prepared and she saying how 'rough' the nails are now.
