Hi, I have been thinking after reading posts on here about people wanting to convert/change brands and wondered how do you know when you have found the "right" brand, and how do you know when its time to experiment?
I have been lucky enough to train at college using a branded product - young nails. With me being very new to the industry, i attribute any problems i may have to myself and NOT the product. I know that you can get samples from many companies but without the conversion training from that company how will you ever know if you are getting the best from that product? Or does experience tell you?
How do I know young nails is the best for me without trying out and learning about other brands? And how did you know when you found the right product line?
Just been pondering this and wanted to know if anyone else had the same experiences when they started out :green:

hi mary good thread:). i trained with a not so well known company (but as expensive as well known brands) i thought it was the best but as i practiced i felt it wasnt going so good so i thought (before i give up)i will try another brand via conversion course and i am glad i did my conversion was better than my 4 day training:eek: so needless to say i use that company now and im more than happy.:hug:xxx

This is a great thread, and has so many different answers! I have tried so many different kinds over my 11 years and I found the one that I love the best several years ago.

For me it came down to different factors:

Ease of use - was the product easy for me to use? Did it save me time, therefore money?
Cost - is it cost effective? And by this I don't mean cheap. The product I use is cost effective in that I use less, and when I buy in bulk - I save a lot of money. Also, the product I use for gel is a one-stop gel - I don't need a bonder or a sealer - just one jar does it all.

Young Nails is a great brand. Are you doing gels or l&p, or both?

In a way sort of but when you have trained and used other products it is like a new pair of shoes you find the pair that best suits you
How do I know young nails is the best for me without trying out and learning about other brands? I cant say for you honey but our Katie in head office was given sample kits from other companys and demos on how to use them for experienced techs who have trained with other companys why not give her a we phone and she will tell you how she found the differance. And how did you know when you found the right product line? Again I compare it to shoes you just know they are the ones you can live without and you just got to have them

I hope the above has helped a little honey. It took me quite a few years and a few pairs of Ill fitting shoes for me to find my Glass Slipper so to speak.

Becoming a "seasoned" nail technician. We all do it, try different products, spend money looking for the best, hoping that there is a magic formula out there that is going to make our nails rock.

What we don't realize is that during our journey of trying different products our skills as a nail technician improve. Then one day our skills are such that we do not experience service breakdown and then we think, yep this product is great.

Always seek the best education and product, ask other successful technicians that inspire you "what do you use", one thing is for sure, when you try another product you get two results - wow!!! this is amazing I don't know what I have been missing out on or "crap", not my best investment, but now I know what I am using is better.

Remember if you are changing products, ensure you are educated with that system to get the full benefit and then are well informed to make the best decisions.

Some technicians are more "seasoned" than others, I guess I was fortunate, I invested in good quality from the start.
Wishing you all the very best in your journey

Thanks all for the great replies!! It really helps. I think for me my next step is training with young nails themselves to ensure im getting the best i can from the product. College was a great foundation for me and now its time to build on that. Im going to try and go to birmingham on Sunday i think (if i can drag myself from my lie in!!) to the show and talk to young nails about it there. Im using the l&p at the moment and have to say that i have enjoyed using it so would like to see their gels too.
Glad im not asking a stupid question, i know its a hard one for anyone to answer but i love the shoe analogy - totally know what you mean lol!!
thanks again xx

In the words of John Kennedy: "Ask not if the product is right for you, but if you are right for the product" !!

Going to the show and talking to different companies is a good idea, but make sure that you take their training too.

Hi Mary

The YN Team are at the Birmingham Show and will be only to happy to have a chat with you Both Claire's Training center and the Head office in Blackpool are very close to you and I am sure you had fab training from the tutors as Bolton.

Just a wee bit of information on you tutors honey not only have the been teaching the classes in Bolton but they recently attended another training class at Head office a few weeks ago and I was very luck to meet them there. I can confirm you are in safe hand with the girls but you can never have too much education honey the more we get the more we learn.

Is that the brand you use Young Nails?

I found that as I have progressed as a nail tech (am still on that journey) I felt more confident trying out new products. having a play (so to speak ) with them, road testing them and reading up about them helped me also.

I also a bit of a product 'tart'. lol. by that I mean I use different brands for different jobs. Naturals are entity, glitter tips NSI and pink and white CND. I feel that for my customers, this is what works. SO dont be afraid to experiment and should you be like me, dont worry if you think that you will make the best nails by using various products.

Give them all a whirl and have fun!
