a client rang up yesterday to ask if i did make up, which i do but i havent got a make up kit yet, its something i'll maybe buy in the future. i explained this and said if she was happy she could bring the make up she usually uses and i will bring what ive got and will apply it professional for her. im doing a trial the day before she's having it done. but im not really sure what to charge? and do i charge for the trial?
thanks in advance :)

have a look at other salons and therapists in your area, i have a really good base kit from artdeco and have added to that slowly, if you wanted a cheaper kit they will put something together that fits your budget. I love the minerals from them. my prices are on my website and pretty much the same as everyone elses, some clients complain about the price but end up coming back, i couldnt work with someone elses makeup, the client may have all the wrong colours, if you dont have a kit you could recommend her to someone who does and take a % for the referal. Thats personally what i have done in the past and what other therapists do with me now, you cant do a professional job without the right tools. x

I charge £20 for makeup application and £15 for a trial. I have a small home salon in a village though so city salon prices will be higher (not sure where you live but look at other salons' prices).

My makeup collection is a mixture of brands as it's hard to find one collection that is great at everything.

I mainly stick to longwearing brands such as Estee Lauder Doublewear and Revlon Colorstay and Benefit as I don't do models, just people having their makeup done for a wedding or a party who need it to last for hours and not just a 30 minute photoshoot or a catwalk show.
