HI IVE JUST STARTED UP DOING MOBILE AND I HAVE PUT UP A LOAD OF LEAFLETS IN SHOPS, HAIRDRESSERS ETC, BUT HAVE NOT RECEIVED ONE REPLY THIS WAS 3 WEEKS AGO, IVE ALSO ADVERTISED IN YELL.COM. DOES ANYON E HAVE ANY OTHER IDEAS ON HOW I CAN ADVERTISE
THANKS:confused:

Hi there,
I'm sorry you are not getting any response to your advertising, but you just need to be patient and keep at it. I know just what you are going through as I am in a similar position its like pulling teeth at the moment to try to new business. I would say to concentrate on a small area for leaflet drops and repeat every 2-3 weeks, keep the numbers small, say 100 or so. Try local hairdressers, gyms, bridal shops, doctors or anywhere you can think of to leave leaflets. Don't lose heart, its just a rough time at the moment, with July and August being dire. I have seen a slight upturn in the last week or so, so keep your chin up and be patient. It will realistically take a year or more to get truly established.

how about starting doing friends and fam for a small charge like £10 or £15 for a full set for example so u have people ou there with your nails on!!...and give them some leaflet to hand out to people they know...or to people that make remarks about their nails....:)..

I know how you feel!!! I think we all do.
I had some business cards done at vista print. They cost about £3.50 for 250. I posted all of them in a little area and got one reply for a spray tan. I charged £20 for the spray tan and it costs me £3 to do.So take away the cost of this and the business cards ive made £13.50 and gained a new client!

A geek on here also gave me a fab tip. She said give each client 5 business cards with their name on it and tell them if one comes back then you will give them a free treat. So if you give the one that comes back 5 more.... and so on.
I've had 3 back from this one client.

Worth a try. Give it a go!

thanks everybody, i will just need to keep trying

Hi,

Someone gave great advice regarding starting with family & friends...they know, like (hopefully) and trust you...

Ask yourself - where else am I known, liked and trusted? Could it be a group some group you belong to?

I recommend you don't market to "strangers" randomly posting flyers, brochures etc. hoping someone needs your help get strategic...it's a waste of your time...

Go to places you have an "affiliation" with...at least you've got a leg up...ask them if they'd like to hear more about how you can help them...

Hope this helps...there's a heck of a lot more to this...I'll post later.

Get a t shirt from Vista print , get your service printed on it..wear it with pride in public and get approached!!:)

Hiya hun,
Im new to all this and will be setting up mobile shortly and Im thinking exactly the same thing as you (wat if i put out loads of leaflets and posters ect and get nothing back) Im going to offer a discount for the 1st 2 weeks to a month to try and get some sort of client base and hopefully a few will come back. These girls know what theyre talking about and there are some really good ideas on here. Dont get too down tho n disheartened, corny as it sounds, every cloud has a silver lining!
Good luck

well whilst deciding to become a nail technicain i have been thinking about who will actually want nails done... young girls.... so maybe think of something to entice them... what about a stampper card so they get their third set free, give them a card and once they have had their nails redone twice they will get there third set free. make sure you stamp their card so you dont forget how many times they have been
Or a ladies pampering night??? say two full sets and pampered polish for the others? for a one off fee?
Every one likes something for nothing, how about making a cheap pamper basket/bag with the essentials like hand cream, nail vanish, nail file, ect for them to take home after their first visit.
or make up a little lucky dip (only little cheap things) and offer it to new customers after a full set?

Just a few hints on building your client base. I haven't advertised or handed out cards. I have so many clients I am flooded as I only work nights and weekends.
What I did was do up my nails and go shopping. Show off your work where there are a lot of people. I have picked up many clients just by people admiring them in town. Now this will sound silly but most of my clients I have picked up at the pub. Hubby and I go to the local one night a week for tea. Spiff up your nails so they are eyecatching and flutter your hands about. lol
I picked up four new ladies at the pub last night.
You are your own best advertisement and then you get more clients by word of mouth.
When they come for their appointment I give them a small gift pack that I have prepared. nail file, solar oil mini, key ring with nail polish attached this type of thing. It helps them stay loyal to you once you have them
Cheers

The geeks in this site really rock! I don't think that you could ask for better advice.
