girls need help... iv got a teaching observation tomorrow. need help to make delivering bones theory...well fun.... unlikely i know, im struggling amongst watching hollyoaks...help???x

Sorry hun but the only thing that came to my mind was the song that my mum used to sing but i don't remember it fully,
something along the lines of your hip bones connected to your thigh bone, your thigh bones connected to your knee bone, your knee bones connected to your shin bone and so on,
sorry probably no help at all but thanks for reminding me of a nice memory

hahahaa im laughing out loud!!! thats brill... its propa cheered my night up x:lol:

Hmm, has anyone got a skeleton suit costume left over from Halloween that they could wear for a demo? That might brighten things up a bit as well as demonstrating where bones are on the body...

Do you mean like how to remember the bones of the wrist or something like that? If so, take the first letter of each word and make up a little saying with the same initials..

Trapezium, Trapezoid, Capitate, Hamate, Pisiform, Triquetral, Lunate, Scaphoid

So TTCHPTLS could be something like The Therapist Could Help Pretend Teacher Learnt Something

OK... it's just an idea, I'm sure someone else can come up with something much better

thats also a brilliant idea,,, im soo doing that for my beauty specialist class. Unfortunately its only a nail services class that i have my obs for tomorrow so i think the full costume for teaching bones of the foot might be a little crazy.

lol great ideas tho.... any ideas for other stuff.

Iv delivered the make up unit and to finish iv asked all my learners to bring in extreme eyelashes, im going to take in my camera...yes i have got consent forms lol. x

You could always see if there is anyone brave in the class who wouldn't mind you drawing the bones on them with body paint :)

That is a REALLY good idea Ruth! I'm sure that if my tutor had done something similar it would've made remembering them so much easier.

Cool thanks :)

I'm sure I've seen it done on the telly before though - there was that anatomy programme on Channel 4 a while back where they had life models that they drew/painted bones/muscles/organs on.

If body painting's part of the course syllabus, you could even kill two birds with one stone ;)

i used this today, obs wa great!! any other quirky ideas??x

Hi,
In class my teacher taught us two word phrases to remember the bones of the tarsal and carpal bones!
Here goes...
Carpals
Hilary - Hamate
Clinton - Capatate
Takes - Trapezoid
Two - Trapezium
Secrete - Scaphoid
Lovers - Lunate
To - Triquetral
Play - Pisiform

Tarsals
Men - Medial Cuneiform
In - Intermediate Cuneiform
Ladies - Lateral Cuneiform
Nighties - Navicular
Can - Cuboid
Turn - Talus
Camp - Calcaneous

Ridiculous I know but our whole class learnt it easily.

Probably too late, but something that my tutor did this week that was quite fun.

Two people sit on a desk at the front of the room. Two teams of 3 or 4. The other people sit at the back, and take it in turns to shout out a bone or muscle. One person from each team writes the name of that bone/muscle on a post it and runs to one of the people on the desk and sticks the post it where they think the bone is. The team who has the bones in the right place in the shortest time wins.

When I was on the desk, paletine was shouted, and I ended up with a post it in my mouth:green:

Just thought it might help for a future class!

I have used the post-it labelling for muscles of the face before which created lots of hilarity in the room.

if you have an interactive whiteboard, you can get the skeleton up and get people to label it, they love that as its high-tec.

When i did my interactive whiteboard training we also had blockbusters which again was great fun, very visual.

One thing I have done in the past also, is using eyeliners OR washable felt tip pens, get students to draw on a volunteers leg and foot the bones.

One other tip, get everyone to sit in a circle, and go around the class getting people to shout out a bone of the foot and you write it on the board, by the time you have written it down and turned round for the next one, its given the next person time to think of one.

this is a super thread, and would love more tips and ideas for future reference.

I also use the eyeliner for drawing on reflexes on the feet. If I'm demoing reflexology, I draw the zones onto peoples feet too.

Yay, well done you for using the body art technique as a teaching aid. Have you found it works well?

yes it does, and the models go home proudly wearing their markings.
Berol do brown washable felt pens that I used when marking my designs for henna.

Ah cool that sounds fab! I guess they come in a range of different colours for marking out different bones too? Do you do much in the way of henna, or just now and then?
