Are you salon based? x

Yes im salon based, i am putting things down to credit crunch but dont know if im kidding myself!x

I was quite quiet but I'm really busy now. As well I've noticed that I'm selling a lot more vouchers compare to last year:) Don't know why that is:eek:
But, don't worry I'm sure it will improve, because one day they all will have to stop talking about the state of economy. I'm so tired listening to the media, it is so depressing. People just don't want to spend money anymore and it is the media to blame.
Hope we all will get busier very soon:)

I'm fully booked right up to Christmas Day, all I have left is a one hour appointment on Christmas Eve. Sadly I've had to turn away a lot of business, including a party of 4 wanting a facial & manicure each, which is rather annoying! To be honest the week up to christmas has been booked solid since about 7 or weeks ago as I always get people to book their christmas appointments at the beginning of November to avoid disappointment.

God, you are doing great:)
Well done!

Thanks! I am doing well, but I do work hard at it & have been building up my client base for quite some years, which makes it easier!

Your salon looks lovely too:)

From speaking to a wide range of customer types in many different parts of the country and abroad there are different stories coming in..some are busier than others and some busier than usual for this time of year whilst some are suffering.....It seems that territories are also differing across the country..

For obvious reasons it does seem that salon based businesses, due to their higher operating costs are suffering somewhat more than home/mobile based therapist who dont carry any where as much overhead costs.

I am surprised how many therapists are actually reporting increased sales over the norm and just goes to prove that with some lateral thinking on marketing that sales can be sustained or grown even through a supposed recession cycle.

Indeed it is a good time to take stock of your buisness...look at your operating costs and see where you can cut back and at the same time find ways of increasing customers or maximising on existing customers by offering "add on services " or even retail items...possibly look at additional treatments you can offer that dont require a large initial up front investment on your part.

Remember you are well placed to offer these opportunities to customers as your customers are with you face to face and through the trust that you have built up with them over the years are perhaps more open to suggestion.

A recession phase ,like the natural world,is a means of weeding out the weaker or over committed businesses leaving those that watch costs and are nimble and willing to adapt well placed when good times return.

A recession is always a good time to evaluate your business ,strip it down to the bare bones, look at what treatments pull the customers in and offer you the best margin returns.

It is important to believe in yourself and your business during these difficult times and maximise on any opportunity that comes along

We too, in Canada, are in a recession. It hasn't affected my business at all. I'm actually busier than ever. I have found that often, in times like this, the beauty industry can pick up a bit... people aren't able to afford their big ticket items, such as trips, so they spend a little more on the smaller things, like pampering themselves at the salon.

I agree, I had a few people today, they said they couldn't afford to go away this christmas. So I offered to have a few nice pumpering treatments done instead, they all agreed and booked some treatments with me:)
