I am so impatient, I am a newbie and just can't wait to get on with it. I am in the process of changing my career to become a fully fledged nail technician and just want to get stuck in but know I have to build up a good client base before I can go full time, any tips on getting there quickly!!!! xx

Have you finished your Foundation, Mell?

Slow and steady wins the race!!!
Good Luck !!!

This is how impatient I am, I am doing my foundation course now, and once I have done that I want to get stuck in, I know I am probably being silly but now I have made the choice to do this I want to be enjoying every single day by doing peoples nails and providing the service I would expect going to get my nails done as I have had some bad experiences at some salons!!
Any ideas on getting set up and making a good name for myself, other than the obvious of providing a fantastic service??

Well it is the obvious thing as you say and it is also the way I started. I immediately after my course got 'stuck in' as you say.

You sound very confident so if you feel you are competent then why not go for it? There area allot worse ways to learn than 'on the job'.

I think many make a mistake when they go on and on practising and then never have the nerve to get going. They never seem to feel ready.

If you feel ready to get stuck in .. then do so. If you think you can give a fantastic service .. then do so.

You will make mistakes, you will have the odd problems, but if you are man enough to take the critism and learn from it then I say good luck to you. It worked for me.

Thanks for the great advice, I feel much better now, I am going to set myself goals so that I can go full time as quick as possible.
I don't mind constructive criticism at all, at the end of the day it can only help you improve.

Hi Mell :), i know how you're feeling i'm doing a foundation course in acrylic & also just want to get on with it but not sure if im good enough yet & unsure of how much to charge etc. I done a gel course last year but gave up really quickly as i didnt think i was good enough so i'm going to get back into it after i'm confident with acrylic.

Absolutely!

You need to have confidence in yourself, that is for sure, but if you are struggling with the confidence go on a skill building or one to one course and get them to assess you and then you will be able to do it knowing you are good at it.

The only way to get there quickly is to put your self out there and get on with it to the best of your abilities,
i came straight out of my foundation class and into a hairdressers renting a desk,
6 months later i bought my own salon,
and i am still there now loving every bit of it, hth

You are an inspiration without being over the top, but wow, shows what you can do if you have the drive, confidence and abilities. I hope I do as well as you!!
