Hello all,

As you may see I am still very new to the business, but am loving it so much.

Anyway I saw a lady on wednesday, she had been working with my hubby & had complained about her nails, he then handed her my card & she booked in with me, now the problems start........

I arrived at her house to find she had removed the NSS set she had on, her nails were very thin & she had also bitten them down as well.

In hindsight i know I should have told her I could not do her nails as her nails were so bitten down and only working now for a couple of months I still have lots to learn but she does work at same company as hubby & I felt I could not .

So today she calls me and says she has broken 2 of them (both index fingers) & that this has never happened before, I have arranged to see her to repair/replace the nails but she also said that they already look like they need an infill, and this is after only 5 day's, is this an error I have made & if so how can I avoid this happening again?

I personally take what my clients say on the phone with a pinch of salt until I see it for myself I wont comment. See what you think when you see them.

It may be that you didnt prep the cuticle area enough or that she has very fast growing nails but I doubt it after 5 days!

Repair the damaged ones (pro gratis if you like, as you want her business) and advise her to come back next week but if she wants infills after a week then she would have to pay for them.

The only person I have infilled after a week is a picker/biter who admittedly completely wrecked her nails as she was stressed and ill at home.

Dont doubt yourself and be professional. I had the same trouble with a couple of my clients when I first started but they think I am the absolute bees knees now and are two of my best clients, I was told my Shedunlop when I started that they would be and she was right.

Good luck.

Thank you for your reply, I had a feeling before I saw her that there was bound to be an issue at some point, but I'm going to see her and hopefully all goes well.

She didn't know any better, at the time :wink2:

It's fab experience for you, we can't pick and choose who wants us to enhance their nails

The majority of NSS apply slabs on nails, they're thick and hence they don't break. Quality technicians apply thin (and strong) enhancements, they will break when put under undue pressure, therefore protecting the natural nail as it isn't generally ripped off when the enhancement is mechanically removed (ie via extreme breakage etc).

If she's a nibbler/biter then her nails will grow fast, they're always being stimulated by the constant picking/biting. It's usual to want to see a nail biter after a week to check up on how they're getting on.

You haven't made any mistakes that I can see, apart from not believing in yourself enough and also believing everything that your client has told you.
Don't panic, sort out her 'problems', learn from it AND charge her for your time when you repair her nails.

She is a biter and biters tend to be pickers as well! I was a biter and am now a picker, and squeezer if I get the chance at a good spot! Biters can't help themselves and will do it even when they do not realise they are doing it!

Also, biters nails grow faster as there is more stimulation around the nail and matrix areas so an infill could be needed.

Repair the nails she has broken and have a look at the others. If the nails were too thin for her then apply a bit thicker. Some people need their nails to be a bit thicker.

I always explain to new clients that it may take a couple of visits before I get to know her nails and we can get the perfect thickness, shape etc for her. This keeps them at bay for the first lot of regrowth and makes them feel important that you will customise the nails to them and that you don't just plop the same nails on everyone who comes through your door!

I agree with Zoe, by the way, that you should wait until you see the nails rather than listen to what the client tells you. Quite often they will exaggerate a little! :)
