Hello
Im sorry if youre fed up with this question (and I have read threads already on here about this subject but still not quite clear) but I have just enrolled on a NVQ 2 course which states "International Health & Beauty Council / International Institute of Health & Holistic Therapies (Recommended for those who may wish to work overseas at some point in their career)" - so Ive paid for the course but saw a thread stating something about ITEC being the one recognized abroad etc.. So my question is, has any of you worked abroad with the NVQ or know really how NVQ works with going abroad? Any feedback appriciated

I wouldnt worry about this. As long as you have a qualification that is recognised as a qualification, I wouldn't worry about which exam board its from.

NVQs, BTEC, ITEC etc can all lead to the same employment opportunities so as long as you are taking a qualification, you're on the right path :)

Thank you! This is what I thought but it just drives me nuts with all the different qualifications and boards etc its very confusing and nothing seems straight forward.

An NVQ is the qualification and should be recognised abroad. ITEC & VTCT are examining bodies, so both offer NVQ's. DOn't know if that helps or adds to the confusion!!

Lol, that makes sense. The one Im going on is rewarded by VTCT and Ive been googling NVQs by ITEC now too and there seems to be very few schools at least in London who even have them, most are with VTCT. The confusion is just that there are so many boards that state they are international and so many qualifications (nvq, cibtac, cidesco, vrq, svq...) and I just didnt know that there are these two different boards behind the NVQs and just got worried as a thread I read said that the itec is the international one but then again my course states it is international too! anyway, I think I should stop worrying as I know people go abroad witn their NVQs so should be just fine :D

NVQ, VRQ, SVQ....all pretty much the same thing! lol

Some people have a preference to ITEC or VTCT, but the main thing is that the course you are doing will be recognised. Stop worrying about the piece of paper you get at the end of it and start enjoying learning your new subject! :D

oh thank you! I will for sure, first day 27th eek! thanks for the help x :)

Traditionally ITEC was thought to be more prestigious and 'international' and NVQ 'easier' and obviously national. However, you are best looking at the regulations of the country you are thinking of using them in (as you asked if they can be used abroad) and also which course format you prefer. ITEC/IHBC/NVQ can all differ with regard to the amount of assignments / exams and assessments, and you need to find what is best for you, you could be great at practical, but fall apart at the thought of written exams (some NVQs are multiple choice exams, other quals can be long hand written) etc.

Hello, Thanks for this! I contacted vtct today and they said it works in most parts (of europe at least i guess they mean?) but then I looked at job postings for jobs in abu dhabi, dubai etc and they required nvq3) but told me same as u, to check with the country etc and I dont have a specific one in mind so!. I might consider doing my level 3 (or body treatments) as itec or cibtac to have a combination of nvq and itec/cibtac lol... we'll see! however, Itec does do nvq's as well but i guess you are referring to the itec beauty specialist qualification? its a shame they are so much more expencive (itec, cibtac, cidesco) as not sure how to afford it :Scared: x
