Hi Joanne, this brings back happy memories (not). We had our big cat for 2 years and decided to bring two kittens home and the adult cat hated the kittens and vice versa for about 3 weeks, they hissed at each other and basically didnt get on. Now they all eat from the same bowl, all sleep on the same sofa and sometimes even the adult cat grooms one of the little ones.
It was the same when we got our dog too, you just need to give them time to get to know each other they will be really frightened but every so often they might go up to each other for a sniff - i think once they get used to the other animal scent in the house they should start to like each other.
Can you not put the kitten in a bed room and then keep introducing her to the dog, i know it sounds crewl but hold the kitten right near the dog so it can sniff it, they may be a few scratched noses but this is what we did.
I hope this helps.

Lol when Frey and Freya were kittens we had a white GSD and we got a stair gate to put across the kitchen doorway at night because they didn't get on anyway I think it was day 5, I came down stairs and found our white dog stretched out on his side, with the black kittens snuggled into his long fur. Best friends after that, give it time hun, they will sort it out just give them the space and let them get on with it:hug:

Its natural for the kitten to hiss, claw etc...anything new, or anything that takes it by surprise, including a sweet wrapper blowing across the floor ,

I would give it a while, they should become used to each other,
As said before keep introducing them, and YOU stay calm,
If you get hyped up, the animals will sense it...

Keep treats nearby for the dog, and when he/she is good around the kitten, reward with a treat....this will eventually mean to the dog ...kitten = good things !!!!

If after a few weeks there is no improvement and they defo can't live together it may be best to re-home kitty...

I got my rottie when he was 7 weeks old, and my cat was about 2 ..
They still don't like each other now...
Whereas my dog bonded with a kitten we got when he was about 8 months, no problem, and the same with the other 3 cats and kitten I have now...
So much so, that my cat gave birth to her kittens on the dogs bed !!!
