Hi,

I am a newbie and this is my first thread.
I completed my L&P foundation course with creative about a year and a half ago and im constantly practising. My only reguarlar clients at the moment are my auntie and my cousin as im not brave enought yet to put myself out there but i know i will get there soon.

I was hoping that someone can answer this for me.
I recently did a full set of P&W on my cousin as she was going away on holiday. She has really bad bitten nails so it was a bit tricky and took me a lot longer to finish but the outcome was really nice.
When she got back she didnt have any nails on and i asked what happened. She told me that she had been swimming in the pool and when she got out the nails went all soft and came off. (she said she had been in the pool for about an hour).
I know i may sound a bit stupid but i havent heard of this before and was wondering if anyone else could help with this as i dont class myself as a pro yet. Do you think the chlorine could have anything to do with it or is it something that i could be doing wrong.
Any advise would be apreciated.
Thanks

There has been quite a few threads where clients have reported that their nails have turned rubbery and come off whilst on holiday,
down to the chlorine in the pool and use of sun creams,
two of my clients have just come back from their holiday (mother and daughter) the mother had this problem and came back with no nails, i do her nails the creative way and buff to a shine,
the daughter came back with all her nails on perfect, the only thing i did different was to apply nsi glaze and go to the daughters nails, it is as if the glaze and go had sealed the nails and created a barrier between the acrylic and products/chlorine hth

Thank you. Its really disheartening when these things happen especially when you have spent a lot of time trying to make them look lovely.
She does tend to pick them aswell which i have told her not and what damage it can do.
Im just a bit worried that when i take this up full time it will happen again because i know a lot of people like to have extension just before a holiday

Try using a top gel coat like glaze and go,
you do all usual prep and application for your acrylic then refine to shape and remove dust,
then you apply the gel like a nail polish and set under UV lamp and your finished, the nails are left super smooth and shiny hth

Unfortunately i dont have a UV lamp at the mo but im hoping to do my Entity gel conversion course within the next month or so. I love the look of the gel top coat so i cant wait. I will definately try that with the L+P. Thanks for you advise.

Same thing happened to me on holidays, had a lovely set of Acrylics put on before I went, couldn't work out if it was the sea or the pool that did it!

I ended up having to pull them off, as they wanted 90 euros at the salon in Marbella....no thanks

Chlorine WILL NOT affect your enhancements to the point that they will lift or go rubbery. My husband is in the pool industry, and he damaged a nail, so I put a clear overlay over to protect the nail while it grew out. He has his hands in and out of the water, handling straight chlorine and other products used in the pool industry and his overlay did not come off, lift or anything, it lasted until it grew out.

The rubbery effect is more likely to be down to the suncreams than the chlorine.

This is absolutely correct.

Chlorine has no affect at all, as you describe, on nail enhancements and neither does sea water ... what does have an effect is an ingredient in some suntan oils and creams .. I forget what it is called but I'm sure someone will enlighten us (begins with a D I think).

If clients keep the oil or cream off their nails, there will be no problem and of course they need to replenish moisture by using Solar Oil every day twice a day on holiday.

Deet :green:

It's found in some suncreams (anti insect ones) and also in Mosquito spray.

Thanks for putting my mind at rest. As im still a newbie, whenever something goes wrong i automatically blame myself. Now if i have a client thats going on their holidays, i can advise them about the sun cream.x
