Is there a list anywhere of all the things that are known to cause lifting?

I have one client who has lifting and I cannot work out what is doing it. We have been through all the usual suspects, but she appears to be using none of those. I just wondered if there was a list anywhere.

What does she do for a living...? any hobbies...?

I've been through all that with her and there is nothing unusual. She does have a baby???

I was really wondering if there was a comprehensive list somewhere of possible causes. None of my other clients have this problem.

Anyone know of a list of all the different things that could cause lifting - please.

Or should we start a list here?

The ones I know are:

Limescale removers
Pantene shampoos and conditioners
Vaseline/Petroleum Jelly
Some alcohol hand cleansers
Some eczema creams
Products containing Deet (Insect repellents, some suncreams & aftersun)
Poor prep work or application

What other things have you all found cause or can cause lifting?

When I was training I was told to tell clients to avoid anything with lanolin in it because of lifting.

some medications

Thanks for replies, I had forgotten Lanolin. Anyone know of anything else please?

I guess it depends on what products you are using....(L&P, Buff off Gels or Soak off Gels)

I use Buff off Gels and to be fair most of what has been listed above wouldn't do didly to them....i think sometimes when we experience lifting we are eager to find the reason for this and so start thinking of all sorts of things ... much of the time its just down to either the client or the tech and not really anything else....i guess it could be different for anything that is soak off as they are alot more porous.

Clients that nibble the sides if there fingers...this puts pressure on the sides of their nails and cause the product to pop up

Nails that are thin and damaged ... this means that the adhesion isn't as good and may result in lifting

product applied too thick in zone 3 and the side walls.... this can make the product pop up as it should be very thin and buffed flush so as to blend into the nail...almost invisible.

Clients with a very hands on type of job.... lifting, lots of typing, packing ect...all puts pressure on the nails and can result in lifting.

GHD hair products seem to cause major issues with one of my clients, sun cream, putting nails in your mouth and exerting pressure. HTH x

I find that Chlorine in swimming pools can cause lifting.

Thanks for those replies. Any other known causes would be appreciated.

I use fibreglass. I am pretty sure its not me because I have a large amount of clients and this one is the only one with such problems. I can tell if some has been nibbling or picking because it is fairly obvious, this is just plain old lifting on the nail plate!

I am worried because I don't want to ever see a greenie because of lifting. I just thought if I could make up a really comprehensive list of possible causes to go through with her, we might be able to pin it down.

Just to add....that once in a while we come across clients who just don't suit nail enhancements...it just doesn't seem to work for them...we might not ever know why...its just that way. If we have tried everything we can...are doing everything we can...and there is nothing to suggest the client is doing anything she shouldn't be then we just have to admit defeat and carry on.

Have you tried her on something else....L&P/gel...?

She's tried everything! I hate to admit defeat! In my 8 years as a tech she would be the first.

what about gently etching her nail slightly (with her consent) for a better adhesion...? i wouldn't recommend this as the norm for every client but if you have tried everything ....

Could be stress also, I have a client who a while back started getting lifiting really badly and the only thing that had changed i her life was she was stressed! Again she is under stress and guess what lifting again! this is a cleint who usually has none, unless has knocked her nails and always tells me hth xx

Severe anemia can also cause it as can other medical issues. I would not advise etching the nail plate.

I am not talking about shredding the nail ;) I was trained with Creative and so take the condition of the natural nail very seriously. What i am talking about going over the nail an extra time with your 240 instead of just the once....This is something i picked up on this site by Geeg when i had a "problem" lifter...and it worked.

Hence i said ... "gently etching her nail slightly "

I knew what you meant Angie, perhaps I will give that a try. I didn't know about anemia being a possible cause, thanks Gigit.

Angie I agree, or would maybe using dif system help, say switching from radical to retention if using cnd,, or using primer if not used... I have a client whom can not have pink and white she has tohave a colour on her nails or she picks,,lol xxx
