I recently bought some Lily lolo foundation (sample) in "blondie" from the neutral chart. I would like to order more but not sure which shade. I found the "blondie" a bit too pale and thought of going just one shade up "In the buff".

What shade do all you Lily Lolo fans wear?

Thanks x

I'm exactly the same and find Blondie just a bit too light, so I wear In the Buff or Popsicle.

Why not order samples of a few....and you can always mix and match, don't forget.

I had Blondie and Warm Peach as samples and found the Warm Peach to be much better for me.....

Thanks for your replies.

I have been wearing the "blondie" for a couple of days now but I am having second thoughts about ordering another. The reason being that the make-up look very "cakey" on my ckeeks, i.e. not at all natural and very heavy looking. I do love the effect other than this so wondered if a warmer shade could solve this problem?

That sounds to me like you appliation could be the reason. When applied properly, Mineral foundation, especially Lily Lolo is very natural looking.

How do you prepare your skin first and what do you apply your foundation with and how?

I exfoliated the night before to make sure all dry skin was removed, and always moisturise after cleansing. It could be that my skin is dry because of the time of year. I have to admit I don't have a proper mineral make-up brush yet so have been using a blusher brush. I load the brush and then tap the excess off and work the powder into my skin. I have found that the concealer seems to wear off very quicky also compared with cream concealers. I guess I could use a cream concealer under the mineral make-up?

you need to work the powder into your brush before tapping and applying....

I personally would try and invest in a Kabuki, they are denser than ordinary blusher brushes, but you should still get reasonably coverage. And a brush works better once it's 'primed'...ie been used a good few times and has a build up of foundation in it.

Its not just a case of brushing it on your skin....mineral foundation needs to settle deep intu your brush, like Angie says and then you buff it on in a circular motion. As you buff you should see the foundation start to become more part of your skin as opposed to sit on it. Concealer too - my concealer and foundation last me all day and night!

Also, I suspect the opposite of dry skin being an issue...I think you possibly have too much surface moisturiser (even if you skin is dry underneath) as this would expalin the cakey look. Try moisturising a little earlier and /or blotting your face with a tissue before application. Surface moisturiser means that the minerals just slide off the skin as opposed to working with it. You could let your night cream do the hard moisturising work and use a slightly lighter lotion during the day, with less surface moisture.

Finally, a quick spritz from a brumisateur or even just a water spray will help set your make-up once you have it applied well, and they only way you'll shift it then is with a good cleanser!

Thanks Lyndsay, this makes perfect sense! I quess I will be asking my kids for a proper brush for xmas! I actually did try a heavier moisturiser i.e. nivea cream cos I thought the problems was dryness. It would make sense that the powder has stuck to the cream rather than being able to sink in properly. Salon geek to the rescue yet again ! :)
