Does anyone else volunteer with this charity? If you don't know, it is an independent charity supported by some of the biggest cosmetic companies to provide female cancer patients with the products and skills to help them look and feel better during their treatment, combating the visible side effects.

I am going along to my local hospital in Plymouth tomorrow as an observer to see if I can volunteer at future sessions. I'm really excited and just wondered if anyone else has done this, or if you know someone who has benefited from the service.:)

I was a charity volunteer for several years, in a totally different capacity so cannot comment specifically on your question Debs.

I just wanted to say that any form of voluntary work whether for charity or otherwise, is always greatfully received and on a personal level, is very rewarding.

Good luck  xx

Thanks Karen

Well I wanted to bump this up and let you all know how it went because I would urge anyone who is qualified in make up application to consider volunteering.

Firstly I had an absolute ball and can't wait to go again.

There were 9 ladies who came, all in various stages of cancer treatment, some with hair some without, some who were obviously in severe physical discomfort and some who were visably nervous about being here. No one knew other, but they all came because they wanted to learn how to make themselves look like beautiful women again.

We (3 beauty consultants and me) welcomed them and gave them a gift box which is donated by the cosmetics houses. These boxes were amazing, all the products required to do a full cleanse and moisturise and everything to do a full face of make up. They also had a large bottlew of Dior perfume too, the total value must easily have been over £300.

One of the volunteers used a lady to model and showed them in 12steps how to cleanse, and then apply make up. During all this we ewre available to either help hands on, on give more individual advice.

The amazing thing was that you could see these women change before your very eyes, not just the way they looked but they were relaxing, having a laugh and chatting with each other.

It really was excellent. Please, please go along and help, it is a wonderful charity that any one of us or our families and friends could find in need of one day. Here is a link to their website Look Good...Feel Better

Sounds like a fantastic time was had hun, and well done you for participating. I do some charity work but not so hands on like this. Im in nails not make up but would like to find out more about this charity so will be looking at the website. Thanks for sharing xx

It's a fantastic charity! I've just taken part in creating a DVD that will be given to all patients. Apart from me giving some nail tips, there was Charles Worthington on hair and wigs and Caroline Barnes on make up tips. Nadine Baggott introduced it all and interviewed us and our models.

It really does help people who are feeling at their worst. There are centres all over the UK and I expect they all need plenty of skilled volunteers to make so many people look good and feel better!

Thats excellent Marian. Will the dvd's go into the gift bags that they get? I was honestly amazed at the products they were given, it's lovely that the industry which women plough millions into each year gives something back, I was really impressed.

My Aunt has recently benefited from this charity.
She had a wonderful time.

Just noticed that they operate from my town.... cool!
I will call them on Monday.

I enquired about being part of this group when we discussed this last time and there isnt any groups near my area at all.

Such a shame as it sounds really good.

I spoke to a lovely lady on Monday. There are two groups near me, so she is sending me details in the post - hopefully they will arrive pretty soon..... I'm really looking forward to getting involved.

Will keep you updated. :green:
