:confused:Hi could anyone tell me what I could have done wrong!!?
I gave luckily my mum a facial the other day, Did my usuall massage routine, the next day she said her neck and shoulders really ached!!
I do try to do a firm but obviously not painfull massage. It didn't hurt her at the time. Could I have done some damage?? This has never happened to me before I havn't done anything different, jusy worried as I dont want to do it to a customer!
Any help would be great.
Thanks Faye.

were her muscles quite tense when u performed the massage? sometimes if muscles r tense before massage and muscles arnt warmed up properly during massage u can "overwork" the muscles - basically they are already tired - you go straight into the massage routine which is aimed to get the blood flow into the muscles which can make them more tired - the muscles have fatigue which is sometimes quite sore. i find that before i begin any massage routine if i do just 5 minutes of light effluerage until i feel the skin warm under my hands. this generally helps stop overworking. i then finish with more light effluergae just to help rid any build up of lactic acid from working the muscles.

xoxo

Is your mum used to having a massage? As muscle soreness can happen in people who aren't used to regular massage. It's the same feeling you get when you exercise for the first time in a while. It should subside over time and shouldn't last more than 48 hours. Make sure she drinks pently of water, also could your mum of been coming down with a cold or somthing?
This could also explain. HTH x

remember that aching muscles can be a contra-action (reaction to a massage). Tell her that it will subside and reassure her that these feelings lessen the more treatments she has.
Definetly ensure you do a lot of effleurage and drainage.

Thanks guys thats great, she isn't used to massage. She was quite tense, so i will take your advice. Thanks alot you have put my mind at rest, so hopefullt it wont happen again if I warm them up a bit more first. Will tell her to book me more often too!!!:)
Thanks again Faye.x:hug:

It's obviously already been mentioned as a Contra-Action, but just another thing to check, how did she feel during the treatment? Was she in an uncomfortable position before\during the massage? Was she supported adequately? Some people (despite being close to you) might not tell you if they feel they are in an awkward position and might think it's their own fault, or the way it has to be if they are not used to massage hth :0)

Xx
