Hi girls,

I have a client fed up of her normal Extensionist, apparently the last set, that I'm trying to remove, she asked for her money back. To cut a long story short she's paying me to do her extensions so I agreed to remove the Remi cachet pre bonds she has in.
I didn't anticipate it taking me more than 2 hours, I thought I'd just crack the bonds, test the acetone & test the balmain bond remover & continue with whichever worked. Neither worked very well but the acetone seemed to be the better out the two. However I was getting nowhere after an hour so decided to wash the hair to remove all the products & heat the bonds slightly to slide them out. I did this & 3 hours later all the hair is out but were left with strong globules of glue on the hair. I called additional lengths who inform me the glue is designed to last 6 months and also as they appeared not to be cut down in the first instance, what I'm attempting to remove are v large solid bonds, they recommended I go get some of their glue remover. So my lady agreed to leave & come bk the following day so we could use their remover & get the rest of the glue out. (I did offer to do it that day but she said she preferred to come back)
I messaged her this morning & told her that the £40 removal fee quoted was based on 2 hours work & that it's actually £20 an hour, however that I'd cap it at £80 since she was having her extensions done. Anyway she kicked off & said she didn't realise she had to pay!,, & that she thought it was included in the price of the hair! The salon owner told me to let her go somewhere else, that she seemed a bit of a money grabber, complainer sort of client & they thought she was bad news. However, being me, I couldn't bare the thought of her walking into a salon with her head full of glue saying look how they left my hair. So I agreed to go to her house & complete the job. Another 3 hours I spent this morning using Remi cachet remover & I've only got the sides out! I've got to go bk tomo & get the back out. To make matters worse, this glue is so strong that her hair is completely snapping off! I've told her but she wants me to continue AND what I'm terrified about is whilst I was there she talked about how she gets phones on contract & then says she's lost them, sells them & gets a new one on the insurance, how she took her shoes off outside a nightclub, stepped on a broken glass & got stitches in her foot but lied & told the council shed fallen so she could put a claim in, she just got off her holiday & is complaining about that & trying to get her money back..... I wish I never started this. Her hair is properly breaking off, this glue is ridiculously strong, is she going to turn nasty on me & blame me for her hair? She's also still talking about me doing her extensions, but how can I when some of her hair is only 2 inches long where it's snapped off? And no I didn't get her to sign a disclaimer either! I'm kicking myself. I'm back there in the morning at 8am - anyone any advice at how to prevent the hair snapping?

All I can suggest is either don't go back, or if you do, very casually produce a 'reciept' for her to sign, or a 'record card' which states, amongst all her usual contact details etc, that client was advised of possible damage and these bonds were removed at her request...
Just be very professional about it, if she refuses, I'd walk away.

You mean the 'receipt' is actually like a disclaimer? X

Lesson learnt me thinks never ever remove anyone else's work as you don't know what her hair was like beforehand. You can agree to do it ding a disclaimer beforehand.

Hi Megan

I would do a written detailed report and ask your client to read and sign it. It's been said before on this forum that disclaimers do not mean anything/offer you no legal protection.

For future reference always get the correct remover by that company, if you can't e.g if was great lengths and your not GL trained then advise your client and get them to go back to who removed them. Or as some say just advise you don't remove other people's work as you don't know what brand they are, cannot obtain the remover and do not know what damage they will cause on removal as they aren't your brand/supplier.

In terms if cost sometimes you just have to admit defeat and do the right thing and work those additional hours for peanuts. You've done the professional thing seeing the job through. I would remove what's left and stay clear if this customer.

Exactly.

There are a lot of new "brands" of adhesive which cannot be removed except with their own remover. But removing someone else's work is risky because you cannot be sure they have been applied correctly in the first place, or that these new formulas for bonds are so strong that they cause breakage.

Thanks girls, would you believe it took me 9 hours over 4 days to remove them! The client actually commented how much kinder I was to her hair than anyone shes used previously & as such, only wants me to do her hair from now on! Argh! That's not what I wanted, lol! I've learned some major lessons with this client & from now on I'll never remove anyone else's work again!

How long had they been in, and if they had not been cut down at all that would be the majority of the the problem

They'd been in 3-4 months, quite big bonds. Apparently it's 6 month glue! Nightmare! X

I have couple of people trying it at the moment not removed any yet, but after 4 months it should break down, but I do find any type of hard bounds if they are too big will be a nightmare to remove because of there size, hopefully this was the problem :)

Im not extensions only but would not say it's a add on its something I take a lot of pride in and spend lots of time research learning on a daily basis

There are you tube videos on how to remove them by additional lengths.. I use thus hair and always cut my bond down by half before applying... On removal i use their remover crack the bond with my pliers place small amount of remover then crack again then leave it for 5 mins(i do small sections at a time!). I then go back hold clients hair at root and simply slide the extension down.. Acetone wont touch their bonds as its italian keratin so you need an oil based remover or their specialist one to cut down on any damage on clients natural hair... Longest its taken me is 1.5hours for a full head of 200 bonds x
